About The Cafe

Breakfast runs all day at The Cafe, a cafe on Huddersfield Road in Oldham, with bacon, sausages, eggs, beans and toast on the plate. A veggie version uses veggie sausages, and the team handles swaps, taking items off or adding them on request. Baps and muffins fill out the morning, among them beef and onion, and lunch follows later in the day. There is no booking, so walk in and order at the counter, or take a table where staff come to you. Takeaway and online ordering cover eating off site, with delivery through Just Eat, switched off when the kitchen gets busy. The step-free entrance helps visitors with mobility needs, while high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Seating outside gives the option of eating in the open air. Doors open daily through the daytime.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is what reviewers return for most, from a thickly sliced bacon and sausage plate with beans in a small enamel bucket to a massive breakfast bap and an all day veggie breakfast that staff let a diner mix and match, with veggie sausages singled out as delicious. Close behind is the eggs benedict with salmon, with eggs described as done perfectly, and a new menu's chicken paratha and rice, called outstanding. Reviewers also mention a beef and onion muffin with chips, generous portions, and small touches like extra crusty bread with a salad or a slice of cake with a note. Several describe a clean, welcoming room, friendly service, and fair prices, and one says the kitchen followed order notes by swapping bacon for extra sausage. The complaints are about service and value. One diner left after a wait without a menu or a cleaned table while counter customers were served first, another received an online breakfast order with no cutlery and no drinks, and one felt overcharged for two cheese salad muffins. Regulars note delivery is sometimes switched off when the kitchen is busy.

“Ordered online and specified we would need cutlery None was given and drinks were forgotten. How do you expect someone to eat a full breakfast with their bare hands? If you can’t read instructions you really shouldn’t run a business How you miss drinks off an order is beyond me First and last time ordering”

“I was totally and utterly ripped off here, £12.00 for two cheese salad Muffins They are £6.00 across the road at Roy's Rolls”

“Got seated at a table where someone had just left, got told table would get cleaned. Staff came over to take our order without being given a menu, didn't clean the table and left us sat waiting over 15 minutes without even being offered a drink. Served 2 people at the counter and just eat orders, rather than serving waiting, sitting customers. We got up and walked out, felt like we didn't exist. Appalling service”

“First visit. Always wanted to go. Just worked out. New menu. Chicken Paratha and Rice OUTSTANDING fresh flavours... best ever. Breakfast bap massive! BEEF AND ONION muffin and chips also great. Already planning next trip and takeaways. A real community vibe. Needs supporting. Well worth the price so gave big tip...😉”
