About The Wellington/The Stockpot at the Wellington
The kitchen at The Wellington, a pub on Chew Valley Rd in Oldham, runs on just three days a week, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, so planning a meal there means planning the day. The Stockpot side of the operation cooks home-made British pub food, with a Sunday roast that includes a Yorkshire pudding wrap filled with chicken, stuffing and pigs in blankets, alongside mince and onion pie and salt and pepper chips, plus vegan and vegetarian options. Food is paid for in cash, though the bar will sometimes take a card for drinks. Real ales and local beers fill out the bar, including Millstone Brewery, with wine and spirits too. Booking ahead is advised. A step-free entrance keeps the pub usable for visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor tables suit drinking and eating in the open air. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers coming off Dovestones and the Saddleworth hills, and tables can be rearranged on request. The bar opens daily.

Customer Review Summary
Home cooked pub food is what draws the most comment, with the Sunday roast singled out repeatedly, one diner describing chicken, stuffing and pigs in blankets in a Yorkshire pudding wrap with chips and gravy. Close behind, others name the mince and onion pie, lasagne with salt and pepper chips to share, and fish and chips, calling the portions generous and the plates piping hot. The beer selection draws nearly as much praise, several picking out real ale and local brews from a nearby brewery, alongside wine and spirits. Reviewers describe the staff as friendly and welcoming and the pub as homely and clean, and a few mention it suiting walkers coming off the hills. The recurring snag is that food is cash only, which caught out more than one group arriving with cards, and one notes food is served on only three days of the week. One party recalls the staff solving it by taking card payment at the bar and settling with the caterer themselves.

“Great little traditional pub. Food served Wednesday ,Friday and Sunday only and you need cash to pay for the food .We arrived with only electronic money but the staff were so helpful letting us pay the pub by card - they then paid the caterer. Great selection of beers and a really friendly atmosphere. The food was typically hot and tasty. Service Excellent . Just what you need after climbing Dovestones .”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
