About Top House

Top House builds its week around pool nights on a Tuesday and a band contest night, giving regulars something to turn up for beyond a drink, and it sits just off the road in Lees as a local pub in Oldham. The bar is independently run rather than tied to a brewery chain, with the landlord and bar team pouring, and drinks run to wine and tequila alongside the beer. Food stays simple, with home-made pies and snacks kept at the bar. Screens carry sport, including football World Cup matches, and snacks go out free during those screenings. Tables outside give the option of drinking in the open air, and dogs are welcome in with their owners. There is no booking system, so you walk in and order at the bar.

Customer Review Summary

The warm, family run feel is what draws the most comment, with several describing a welcoming local away from the brewery chains where the landlord and bar team make visitors, including one over from Northern Ireland, feel looked after. The beer runs a close second, praised simply as great or good, and the homemade pies get singled out as being to die for. Others point to sport on the big screen, a pool night, and World Cup screenings that came with complimentary snacks and discounted beer, which one reviewer called worth the trip. Comfort and cleanliness come up repeatedly, alongside plenty of space. The complaints are specific rather than sweeping: one found the bar staff simply served whoever was in front of them during a busy spell rather than tracking who had waited longest, and the same visit turned up little for a drinker of darker ales. Another wished for coffee and a wider alcohol free beer range, one found soft drinks for drivers pricey, and one noted tables that were a little sticky.

Nice friendly local. Wish it served coffee and a better selection of alcohol free beers, but welcoming and comfortable.
  • Stephen Roulston
Visited a couple of times when over from Northern Ireland. Made very welcome by all. Great bar staff friendly locals and the landlord is an absolute gentleman. Cracking atmosphere.

Had brill night Tuesday for pool, all the football world cup is being screened with complimentary snacks and discounted beer so it's worth the trip. Pleasantly run

Called on band contest night but was relatively quiet. Service, cleanliness and staff all 5*. Marked down on price of driver drinks which I felt were expensive.
  • Lesley Fitchett
Not a good choice of drinks for my husband as he likes the darker ales, service wasn't very good it was busy but it seemed like they just served who was in front of them regardless of how long anyone else had been at the bar, I worked behind the bar for years and I know you should be checking around when you're serving to see who is next.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
