Customer Review Summary
The homemade pie and the Valentine's set menu draws the most praise, with reviewers describing generous courses like scallops and chorizo, rib eye, salt and pepper chicken wings, and a Burns Night spread of Cullen Skink and venison stew as consistently excellent. Close behind, the cheese and onion pie and rag pudding get singled out, and fish and chips is called "spot on" with huge portions repeatedly noted. Several also mention the beer and wine selection favorably. The new landlady draws warm comments for being welcoming to dog owners and drinkers alike, though one reviewer recalls not feeling welcome on a past visit before the change in management. A minor gripe from one diner was the very quiet atmosphere, suggesting background music. One reviewer who initially skipped dessert due to portion size returned specifically to try the pie, later confirming it was "fab.

“I came here for the first time, after a recommendation from my daughter.. and I'm so angry at myself for not trying this place sooner!!.. Our meals were lovely, I genuinely can't fault a thing..I ordered the cheese n onion pie, my daughter had Rag pudding... and we troffed the lot!...If you haven't visited here yet, then you really need to!.. it's lovely and the food is spot on 👍”

“We visited for the Valentine’s set menu and it was spot on. At £28 for 2 courses, it truly lived up to the reputation of 'honest food at honest prices.' The menu itself was a 'Love-ly' surprise with a fantastic range of choices. (I chose Scallops& Chorizo starter, 10oz Rib Eye Mains)We went with friends and the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted: a lovely, laid-back vibe where we never felt rushed. Great service, and the food was amazing. If you want high-quality pub food and a relaxed evening in Dobcross, I can’t recommend this place enough!"”
