Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the seafood small plates, with the scallops, either seared or paired with black pudding, praised for flavour and cooking. Close behind are the mussels, the brandade scotch egg, the chowder, the beef and marrow, and the bang bang or dynamite shrimp. Fish and chips is the only full-sized plate, and it splits opinion: some call it simply delicious, while one found the chips hard. Several note the portions are small and suggest ordering a few dishes to share, and a couple describe views of the bay and window seats that are hard to get. Several suggest booking ahead. The main complaint comes from one diner who waited possibly half an hour to get a bill, and who also waited to order dessert and another drink. That diner also found the creme brulé lacking flavour, and another called the raw oysters over priced. Staff are mostly described as friendly and welcoming, and one server explained the menu and gave suggestions on the best dishes.

“Made a reservation here for dinner, the menu was explained very clearly that it was tapas style dishes and 2-4 dishes per person was recommended, it was explained that the dishes are served as an when they are ready. I thoroughly enjoyed the seared scallops, great flavour and cooked perfectly. The beef & marrow was to die for it was packed full of flavour and very moreish. I was not a fan of the chips, they were piping hot but quite hard and I wish I had ordered something else in their place. I also didn't enjoy the creme brulé, it lacked flavour but again could be personal preference. Service upon arrival was great, I'm not sure if most of the staff were doing work experience as they were all very young, every person I interacted with was polite and professional. A true credit to the restaurant. I had asked for some recommendations and was told the most popular dishes that people ordered which was great. My major issue was how long it actually took to manage to get someone to give me my bill at the end of the meal, I'm not sure if it's where I was seated as the person next to me also had this issue when waiting for the card machine. I had sat for possibly half an hour until I managed to grab someone's attention from across the room, not entirely a huge issue but it took longer than it should have. I also had this issue when waiting to order a dessert and another drink, overall waiting much longer than I anticipated. Although I am aware most staff were busy clearing tables and I'm not one to want to wave across a restaurant to gain someone's attention. Overall I enjoyed my visit, my bill for one person came out as £75 which was 4 food items and 2 glasses of wine alongside a 10% discretionary charge, it was more than I was expecting to spend but I did enjoy 2 of the 4 dishes I ordered.”

“Amazing experience all around! We came by just hoping for some luck to get in after our all day tour ran long fully not expecting to be able to get in. It was about an hour and a half before closing time and incredibly busy. We came in with our hiking boots and gear and we were greeted so kindly, which we were so grateful for. Despite the restaurant being absolutely slammed and I was assume fully booked, the host told us he would be sure to get us in. He was nervous to ask us if a 15 minute wait would be ok not realizing that where we're from we're used to waiting 30 minutes to an hour for bad food. Of course that was perfectly fine. I'm fact, we were thrilled and got in sooner. Our server was very sweet and explained the new menu and way they ran things and gave helpful suggestions on the best dishes. This is the place to come if you want to try several items without getting a full size dish of it as it's small plates and very moderate to affordable prices. We both tried mussels for the first time and were so impressed with the flavor and quality, neither of us being huge on shell fish. The salmon was fresh and flavorful. The seafood Mac and cheese delectable. Best bang bang shrimp we've ever had and An incredible Scotch egg. The toffee pudding to finish was the perfect ending to a perfect meal and this meal was our favorite on our vacation and one of the best we've ever had. We still talk so finally of this experience and cannot recommend here enough. Service and quality unmatched!”
