About China Restaurant
China Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant at 39 Stafford St in Oban, across a small street from the Oban Distillery. The menu runs a classic Chinese range alongside Thai dishes and local seafood, so one table can order across all three. Szechuan chicken and roast duck with garlic and chili sit among the Chinese mains, and chicken satay is on the starter list. Plates arrive western style, with no chopsticks or bowls. The restaurant is open daily, and the dining room runs alongside a takeaway side.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly, quick service is what reviewers raise most, with several calling the staff lovely and one praising a waiter who handled a difficult neighbouring table well. Food earns solid praise too: chicken wings described as crispy and full of flavour, a fresh and generous mixed seafood dish, and szechuan chicken and szechuan tofu that one family found flavourful. A vegan "chicken" lo mein impressed one parent, and another table enjoyed sweet and sour king prawns and chicken chow mein. Opinions on price split, with some calling it reasonable and others pricey. The sharpest complaints concern portions and consistency. One reviewer found the chicken and meat dishes tiny and the most expensive on the menu, while another reports tasteless chicken with ginger and spring onion, overcooked chicken satay with a watery sauce, and tough, cold chow mein. A few mention plates that were not hot and no chopsticks or bowls. One diner sent back the crispy shredded duck because it was only cut up and came with four pancakes.

“Very fast service and tasty food. Would have been better if plates were hot. Good service but there was only us in the restaurant so there was not much of an atmosphere. Lots of people take away food.”

“Very happy find after the World Stone Skimming Championship. Our waiter was brilliant, good menu, easy choices, food excellent, a bit at a loss as to why this place hasn’t got better ratings. They even dealt well with the difficult table next to us!”

“This was my 3rd visit to this Chinese restaurant on holiday in Oban, 2nd visit wasn't that great but decided to give it another go, my chicken, ginger and spring onion was tasteless, my starter of chicken satay was disgusting the chicken was overcooked and the sauce was like water. My partner had hot and sour soup again tasteless and special chow mein tasteless meat was tough and cold, terrible that your paying good money for disgusting food. WOULD NEVER GO BACK!!!”

“So me and my friend went into this restaurant for what we thought would have been just a normal Chinese meal. The food tasted good, however, we had to send back the quarter chripsy shredded duck(£16) (it wasn't shredded, just cut up) miniature portion with 4 pan cakes (trust me it was not gona make 2 pancakes. The price per dish was an average £15 per dish. The noodles were a decent size portions but any of their chicken or meat dishes were minute child portions that also were the most expensive! Photo included.”

“Had a fantastic meal at the China Restaurant in Oban. The chicken wings were perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and nicely crispy. The mixed seafood dish was fresh, generous, and absolutely delicious. Great service, friendly staff, and a lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back again!”
