About The Union Inn
The Union Inn is a 14th-century pub in Newton Abbot, set in Denbury and overlooking the village green. A function room fits 100+ people and hosts birthday and family parties. Gluten-free food at a function is served separately from the main food. The kitchen cooks Sunday roast, including pre-booked roasts for large parties, and the dessert list includes apple crumble and biscoff cheesecake. Real ales and a wine list sit alongside the food. The pub welcomes dogs, and it opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. Guests staying at the Dornafields caravan club site can walk to it.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers mention most, with a large party describing a pre-booked roast that did not disappoint and a couple praising generous portions. Apple crumble and biscoffi cheesecake are named as decent-sized desserts. Close behind is the welcome, with the staff repeatedly called friendly and warm, and one diner saying they were made to feel like a local. Several mention the food arriving without a long wait, even for groups of 36 or a large post-event party, and one says four plates came back empty. The function room draws praise for fitting over 100 guests, and a gluten-free guest was pleasantly surprised by a separate platter of sandwiches, crisps and mini cakes brought over by staff. Reviewers also note the pub is dog friendly and the prices fair. One reviewer advises booking a table in advance for food because the pub is popular, and a walker who stayed nearby on the South West Coast Path says they were not rushed and plan to call again.

“A random booking for a large party after an event. We all had a Sunday roast, pre booked, and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the staff were amazing, and it takes a lot to get everyone's food out whilst serving other people in the pub 😀 definitely 5 star food with a 5 star service .”

“Drove pasted and popped in to ask if they were serving food. Placed our orders and delivered without us looking at our watches. It was delicious, all 4 plates were left empty. We will find it again and come back. Price was also very reasonable.”

“We are staying down the road in Danbury while walking the South West Coast Path. The pub is on the village green with lots of outdoor seating. We booked for Sunday lunch and received a very warm welcome! The staff were all really nice with lots of time to chat and made you feel like a "local" We had the Sunday roast, which was delicious and the portions were generous too! We waited a while and then had desert 😋 Apple crumble & biscoffi cheesecake which again were delicious and a decent size too! We were not rushed, the food and drinks were great as were the friendly staff! We will call again for sure”

“The friendliest pub you could ever wish to stumble across. We walked here from the Dornafields caravan club site, it only took around 20mins each way. All the staff are really friendly and attentive. There is a good drinks selection and the food is amazing. Ensure you book a table in advance (for food) as it is a popular place. We would definitely recommend and look forward to returning one day.”
