About Tally Ho
Tally Ho is a 14th-century country pub in Totnes, on Littlehempston next to the village church. South Devon CAMRA voted it Country Pub of the Year in 2019 and 2020, and local ales remain part of the offer at the bar. The kitchen works from a small seasonal menu, with home made food cooked to order and vegetarian options. Fresh fish specials from Brixham sit alongside the Sunday roast. Inside, the traditional interior has open fires. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring their companions along. A landlord and landlady run the pub as a couple, with family involved. A large car park is free to use.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the home-made food, with the fresh Brixham catch of the day singled out: sea bass and monkfish on leek mash with prawn and basil pesto, a prawn starter, and a prawn risotto with haddock, all called delicious and filling. Others mention a salmon Caesar salad and a brilliant Sunday roast, and one notes plenty of vegetarian options with dishes cooked to order. Close behind is the welcome. The landlord, landlady and their family are described as friendly and as making guests feel like old friends, and bar staff are said to stay accommodating even when busy. Several visitors mention the owners' dog, a basset hound who has lost her sight but loves being fussed over. Reviewers also like the good beer and cider, the roaring fires, a pretty beer garden and a traditional interior that keeps its old world charm. One suggests booking ahead because tourists and locals both fill the place. Another, celebrating a quiet wedding there, was presented with a bottle of bubbly.

“We were staying in Littlehempston and were just a two minute walk from the Tally Ho. We had no idea what the pub was like as we opened the door & we walked into a thriving local pub, with loads of character, a real buzz about the place, with a busy bar and tables to boot. We thought we may be too late for food but the bar staff couldn't have been more accommodating to us. The menu is small but that's never a bad thing & my prawn starter was delicious. We both had one of the specials for mains, fresh catch of the day from Brixham (sea bass & monkfish) sat on leek mash with prawn & basil pesto & it was an absolute knockout. So delicious and so filling too. And, despite being mid £20 mark, we both said it was outstanding value ~ the fish cooked to perfection. Neither of us had room for pudding but we enjoyed ourselves so much we headed back the following night. We were early for our table but again the staff had no problems and soon the food was with us again ~ Lynnette had the same as the night before (different fish!) and I had the prawn risotto with fresh haddock. Again delicious and filling and worth every penny. Great beer, lovely cider, terrific atmosphere, friendly staff - even when they were at their busiest - a 10/10 local. Highly recommended - in fact, make sure you go!”

“Not been here for a few years now, but ate here twice while staying in the village. Brilliant Sunday roast, and then returned on Tuesday evening. Staff were really good and very attentive.”

“What a lovely experience this was. From the moment we walked up to the door a couple of the locals made us feel extremely comfortable and welcomed us. The cutest of dogs resides here ' Betty ' who has lost her sight but still loves being fussed over. The owners are very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a drink or something to eat. 🙂👍🏼”
