About Teayempo
Teayempo is a pan-Asian restaurant at 87 Westgate Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne, run by a family whose restaurant began in Cumbria before opening in the city. The kitchen blends dishes from across Asia into its own house style, with Filipino plates such as pansit bihon on the menu. Crispy belly pork is served as a main with rice, and katsu chicken curry sits alongside it. Cocktails include a strawberry option. Karaoke is available, so a night out here can include singing as well as dinner. The decor combines Asian-influence artwork, orchids and faux greenery.

Customer Review Summary
The criticisms are small. One reviewer found the California roll light on tobiko, another noted the siomai used a gyoza wrapper, and one wished for a spicy vinegar sauce with the pork belly. One also acknowledged cheaper places to eat in town. Another, who pinched a bite of a partner's katsu chicken curry, was booking a return visit for the following week.

“Great little restaurant, we were early so it was quiet but the food was well portioned and very nice. The wine, an Australian Shiraz was smooth and rich. Service was very good and we were told that they have karaoke for anyone who fancied a go.”

“Popped in around opening (5:30pm on that particular day) for a small bite. We shared the veggie tempura, duck gyoza and the specialty Phillipine dish (in the middle of the pic - I can't believe I can't remember the name). The service was great, good was phenomenal (we wished we were hungrier to order more of the middle one!). Not sure if we will ever be back in the area, but if we are this will be stop #1”

“I pass this restaurant all the time and keep saying to myself...I'll have to visit there sometime!!... & so I did! It reminds me of Little Saigon(which I loved) & which used to be in the Bigg Market. It was nice and warm inside and I was greeted by a lovely member of staff. I placed my order and the nicest prawn crackers were delivered with a lovely pint of Asahi beer 🍺. My main course of Ginger, Salmon Teriyaki arrived, piping hot, a short while later...utterly delicious 😋. You can even karaoke, if you're so inclined. All in all excellent 👌”

“Great food! As others have said, highly recommend the sushi. We were there not long after opening on a Monday evening, so it was quiet, didn't need to book ahead. Yes, there are cheaper places to eat in Town, but the belly pork was more than worth it. *Sorry, food was too good to wait for pics, it didn't arrive half eaten 🙂*”
