About Ngon Cafe
On Low Friar St in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Ngon Cafe serves Vietnamese food across a menu that spans cafe dishes, deli items and full restaurant plates. Pho comes with a choice of prawn, beef, or chicken, alongside Bun Bo Hue and Special Pho, while the ultimate pork banh mi and grilled pork and prawn rolls round out the lighter options. Vietnamese coffee is served alongside dishes such as wok-fried morning glory with garlic and grilled salt and chilli king prawns. Vegan options appear in every section of the menu, and the kitchen accommodates gluten free and coeliac diets. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance serves visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. The restaurant opens daily except Tuesdays, and reservations are recommended.

Customer Review Summary
Pho, especially the Special Pho and rare and cooked beef pho, draws the most praise, with reviewers calling the broth sweet and comforting and the corn side dish unexpectedly addictive. Close behind, the Vietnamese coffee is described as tasting authentic, the ultimate pork banh mi comes highly recommended, and the Bún Chả and grilled pork and prawn rolls also earn strong notice. Several diners flag slow or inconsistent service during busy periods, one recounting a forgotten meal and repeated unanswered requests for a drink, another noting a fried rice order that arrived with beef despite being requested without it and had to be remade, and a third describing salt and chilli king prawns as dry and under-seasoned. One coeliac diner appreciated the gluten-free options but wished staff would specify which dish was prepared for cross-contamination safety. Despite these hiccups, most reviewers say they intend to return, with one calling it their new favourite restaurant.

“Went here for lunch, service was great and very informative, every section had a vegan option! Only downside was I thought the music was a bit random but that’s just my preference, did go at lunch so maybe that’s why ? My boyfriend’s sandwich was also extremely tasty he said and he would highly recommend the ultimate pork banh mi!”

“🇻🇳 The Vietnamese coffee tastes just like it did in Vietnam, so authentic ☕️ We had the Bun Bo Hue and Special Pho. Both were amazing! The Special Pho was good, though I think it’d be even better if you choose just prawn, beef, or chicken, less meat variety works better. But the corn… wow 😲 I can’t even describe it. Not normally a corn fan, but this is addictive and like nothing I’ve ever had before. The decor and atmosphere are cozy, making it a perfect spot to relax. Definitely coming back! 💛”

“Atmosphere lively, food incredible however my meal was forgotten so family had ate by the time I got mine, I asked for a drink of 3 different servers and still didnt recieve one I approciate it was busy and its not the end of the world however i was left hungry and thirsty not the best service for us, especially observing other tables getting drinks and top notch service. Really disappointed as heard amazing things may have been a one off but I wont be in a rush to return. Food was delicious and we're able to take away left overseas.”
