About Oodles Wok Newcastle

Oodles Wok Newcastle is a halal restaurant at 55 Grainger St in Newcastle Upon Tyne, founded in 2010 as a single family-owned location. The format centres on build-your-own wok boxes. Guests choose a base of rice or noodles, then add meats, a sauce and toppings, and the food is cooked in a wok in front of them. Boxes come in value, regular and bento sizes, and extra prawns can be added on top. Chicken dishes such as Manchurian chicken sit on the menu, alongside Szechuan paneer for those who want a vegetarian option. Drinks include bubble tea, such as brown sugar milk tea with crystal balls and coffee jelly toppings. Students can use a discount.

Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers return for the value box and the build-your-own box, praising generous portions that one says take a good appetite to finish, cooked in a wok in front of the customer. Diners name Manchurian chicken, Szechuan paneer, a bento box and chicken with lots of sauce, and several call the staff friendly. A few mention the student discount. One finds the food a little too oily, and another says the noodles and rice could be better. The recurring complaint is order accuracy. One reviewer was handed a completely wrong bag on a first collection, then found drinks and a food item missing on the next visit. Another received an Uber box of plain noodles with none of the toppings ordered, and one bubble tea customer got jelly instead of tapioca pearls and regular milk tea instead of brown sugar. One also says the takeaway box leaks. Still, one diner was given a free side of spring rolls with a value box.

“I really wanted to like this place. I have now tried it twice. I returned because mistakes can happen and decided to give them another go but to have issues with both orders I have placed for collection they are far too inconsistent for me. First order was 29/04/26. I placed an order for collection through their app. Went to collect at the collection time. Staff member was bagging up an order. I showed my order confirmation email with my name and order number. I was handed a bag. I asked twice if the order was mine. I was told yes the first time after showing my order confirmation again and not much of a response the 2nd. I only asked as it didn’t think it look like mine. I was right when I got back it was completely the wrong order. 2nd visit 03/06/26 placed through the app for collection again. Uber eats driver skipped me in the queue and was served first. On collecting the order and had to remind them that there were drinks missing. I got them but again when I got back there was another food item missing. I understand they may have resolved these issues if I returned but having already placed the orders and travelled to collect. I shouldn’t have to take more time for something to be fixed that should have been right the first time. Especially given I questioned if the orders were correct on both occasions before leaving. Sorry but doubt I will try a third time unfortunately.”

“They show black boba balls in the pictures, which are supposed to be the normal tapioca pearls used in drinks, but what I received was jelly instead. The pictures show something completely different from what they actually give customers. my last few were disappointing. The previous time, I ordered a brown sugar milk tea, but I only got regular milk tea. A few hours ago, I ordered a brown sugar milk tea with crystal balls and extra coffee jelly, but both the crystal balls and coffee jelly were almost the same thing and tasted 99.99% similar.”

“The value portion is absolutely filling with a generous serving size. Great portion for the price, really good value for money. Dine-in only costs a little over 6 pounds. 英式中餐有点上头”

“Chicken is always good with lots of sauce. Employees are nice and friendly. Very generous portion for the value box and is worth the price. The only thing to improve is the noodles and the rice.”
