Quick info
About Moulin Rouge Cafe & Grill
Set amidst motorcycle sales and repair shops on Westgate Road, Moulin Rouge Cafe & Grill is a small Persian cafe and grill in Newcastle Upon Tyne, well off the tourist trail. The kitchen pairs Persian cooking with cafe standards, so a Persian chicken curry and a salmon and rice dish offered on Wednesdays sit alongside a full English breakfast. Halal food is available. Meals are served at the table or packed up for takeaway to eat off site, and the doors open daily. Booking ahead is recommended. Dogs are welcome in the cafe, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. The business has since passed from its previous Persian owners to new ownership.

Customer Review Summary
The Persian side of the menu is what reviewers push hardest, with the Persian chicken curry singled out as especially flavourful and one visitor urging others to skip the English breakfast in favour of the specials and Persian offerings. That breakfast still has its champions, though, described as an immense plate with black pudding tucked under the beans, and repeatedly praised as one of the better bargains in the area. Value comes up in nearly every account, with several calling the portions large and the prices reasonable. Staff draw steady warmth: described as friendly and polite at the point of ordering, informative, and content to leave diners alone during the meal, with one party travelling a long distance for halal food and being looked after by the manager. Reviewers mention food arriving freshly prepared within a few minutes, and one returning visitor, noting the place has changed hands, left a fond note for the previous Persian owners and their Wednesday salmon and rice dish.
