Quick info
About Chicken Shack
On campus in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Chicken Shack is a restaurant in the Hadrian Building built around buttermilk-fried chicken tenders, each order with a choice of sauces. Chicken burgers and Buffalo chicken wings fill out the rest of the chicken lineup, and the burgers come with chips. The spicy bean burger meal pairs the burger with fries and a drink, and the kitchen also offers vegan options. Halal options are available, so the menu works for students and staff who need them. Meals include a soft drink without refills. A queue tends to build at lunchtimes, and the counter runs with few staff. Hash browns are sold individually.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the chicken burgers, with the spicy chicken burger meal and the spicy bean burger meal named as filling, good-value lunches on campus, and one reviewer praising the lovely crispy chicken. Chips come close behind, described as a good portion and nicely crisp, though one says they need salt and another preferred the recipe before it changed. Hash browns and a breakfast visit also earn mentions. Service is called quick and friendly by several, and one notes the eat-in benches stay clean and tidy. The caveats are mixed. Several three-star reviews call the food mid, one saying the hot and spicy burger was barely spicy and another calling the chicken very bad. A lunchtime complaint describes a long queue with only a few staff and takeaway only at that hour. Drinks draw a small note too, with a soft drink included but no refills and a small selection. One reviewer who ordered the spicy bean burger meal still found it good every time.

“If there is a restaurant that embodies the word 'mid' its this one. Ordered the hot and spicy burger, it was barely spicy, and it wasn't that hot either The chips are nice and crisp but needs some salt They give a soft drink with the meal but no refills. Theres also only a small selection of drinks For a quick on campus snack its good, but I would not come here if I'm not in a hurry”
