Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the cafe's drinks and ordering confusion, and the coffee draws the sharpest criticism. One describes a hot chocolate that was more water than milk and an americano like dish water, another found a mocha and flat white the worst they had had, and a third called a chai latte not nice. Several say the multiple tills and lack of guidance made ordering confusing for first-timers, with one told abruptly to move to another till. Waits come up repeatedly, including a bacon and egg sandwich that had not been started after a long wait and was cancelled. Food gets mixed reports: fish and chips described as standard in one review and as mostly batter in another, a katsu curry called plain, and baguettes with only a couple of fillings available. Longtime visitors say the cheese scone, once warm and soft, arrived cold, hard and burnt, and another found no scones at all. Praise is thinner: one enjoyed Korean chicken with rice and kimchi, one liked the affordable cakes, and a family appreciated a free kids meal and comfy chairs.

“John Lewis Newcastle Sadly I think the revamp of this place has been a grave mistake. The cafe used to run like clockwork, it was always busy and the staff were familiar, friendly and competent. I've tried it twice since it was taken over and the place has been dead. Both times there were no scones due to "supplier issues" and today I had a dry piece of cake and a rather bland coffee. The young staff are pleasant and polite and it's not their fault the produce is substandard or non existent but I'm afraid I'll be going elsewhere from now on, as I suspect a large percentage of the previous regular clients will or have done so already. Shame. If it's not broke, don't fix it!”

“Sadly they dont do meal deals ie sandwich and soup. its all a bit of a messy menu unfortunately was better before this new company took over”

“Ordered Mocha and Flat white. Worst Mocha and Fat white we've ever had. Not again!”

“As a first-time customer, the ordering process was confusing, with multiple tills and no clear guidance. When I went to the wrong till to order a coffee, I was abruptly told to move to another one and made to feel uncomfortable in the process. The staff member taking my order was rude and unprofessional. Everyone has difficult days, but that doesn’t excuse poor attitude, especially in customer service. You are in the wrong job indeed. Basic politeness and clear communication should be standard.”

“The service was very poor, and the female server treating us was obvious discrimination. I requested the plate before another customer, but she gave it to the person ahead of me instead.”
