About The Botanist Newcastle
The Botanist Newcastle is a restaurant on Monument Mall in Newcastle Upon Tyne, serving gastropub-style dishes, kebabs, botanical cocktails, draught beers and wine. House bands play live music, which puts a gig alongside the meal. The kebab range includes halloumi and lamb skewers. Guests wait to be seated on arrival, then sit wherever they like in the bar, with menus on the tables. There is no table service, so orders go in at the bar, or by phone or online with a login. Window seats have adjustable blinds and overlook parts of the city. A rooftop terrace is available for full venue hire and private events, and the team hosts large groups and work meals. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The interior draws the most comment, described as beautiful, unique and inviting, with a rooftop terrace and a window seat overlooking the city. One reviewer enjoyed watching the lights come on at dusk. Food comes next: onion rings and seasoned fries are called great value, and diners also single out halloumi and lamb skewers, a lovely burger, and starters and puddings. Cocktails are called lovely, and staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful. A company party and a 25-person work meal both went smoothly. The recurring complaint is the ordering setup. Several reviewers waited a few minutes to be seated, then found that ordering runs through a phone login asking for email and phone number, with bar ordering allowed but discovered later. The online menu does not show special prices or allow special instructions, and one reviewer wanted drinks orders taken more than once. In one visit, a cold kebab stick was re-fried and brought back after a word with the manager, and a free drink followed.

“We hosted our annual company summer party at The Botanist on Friday with a full venue hire, and I cannot recommend them highly enough! The venue itself is gorgeous, and getting to make full use of the rooftop terrace was fantastic. A huge thank you to the management team - they were incredibly well-organised, attentive, and ran the entire event seamlessly behind the scenes. The staff were the absolute highlight of the night. Every single team member across food service and the bar was outstanding -attentive, friendly, full of energy, and visibly having fun at work. They are a massive asset to the business, and I was completely wowed by them. Now for the food: to put it simply, scrumptious! Beautifully presented, packed with flavour, and an all-around 10/10 (I’m still thinking about the halloumi and lamb skewers). As an event organiser, the team made my night completely relaxing and stress-free while making it memorable for our whole team. I’ll definitely be back in touch! Thank you!”

“Upon entering such an interestingly intricate, and jaw-dropping interior, we were welcomed by a very friendly and positive hostess and waitress. When traversing across the restaurant we were seated next to a large window, with adjustable blinds, that fabulously overlooked some parts of the city. When it comes to food, The Botanist had not disappointed, with serving both delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that satiated the hunger in all our bellies. Overall, fantastic service quality, great food, and clean toilets, had ultimately made this day of graduation even more memorable ☺️”

“Won't be going back! We visited as a group of eight and found a couple of tables together so we could all sit as one group. Unfortunately, the tables were covered with leftover food from previous customers. We moved some of the dirty plates and food onto nearby tables, expecting that a member of staff would come over to clear everything away. After ordering our drinks, my mother-in-law politely asked if someone could clean the tables for us and was told, "Yes, no problem." However, 40 minutes later, the food was still sitting there untouched. The building was very warm, and as you can imagine, the smell from the leftover food became quite unpleasant. My mother-in-law eventually had to find a staff member again and asked if she could have a cloth so she could wipe the tables down herself. Instead of a staff member coming to clean the tables, she was simply handed a cloth and had to clean them herself. I find it unacceptable that customers are expected to clean their own tables after waiting so long, especially after being assured that someone would take care of it. Very disappointing service, and unfortunately, we won't be returning”

“Really enjoyed the food, there were 25 of us out for a work meal, no one had any complaints about their meals. Staff were friendly and helpful. If I had one suggestion- come around for drinks orders more than once.”
