About Chaiiwala

Chaiiwala is an Indian cafe and tea house in Newcastle Upon Tyne, found at 581 Westgate Rd. The business is also classed as an Indian restaurant, and Indian is its listed cuisine, so the tea house side sits alongside Indian food rather than replacing it. Dogs are welcome, which means visitors can bring their pets along when they come in, a useful detail for anyone who prefers not to leave a dog at home.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers are split, and the centre is service. One describes breakfast taking a long time in a nearly empty room, with no apology. Another says food arrived unevenly for a couple. Others call front-desk staff rude. Food draws mixed views: an English-ish Breakfast and a meal deal with a cheese and bean toastie and chicken tikka loaded fries were enjoyed, while an aloo paratha came in small portions.

“Tried here for a change. My partner got the English-ish Breakfast and he really enjoyed it. I got the meal deal for 1, I opted for the cheese and bean toastie, you also get either a pasty or samosa and chicken tikka loaded fries with a chilli and garlic dip. I really enjoyed it. There was lots of other things I'd like to try, we will defo go back.”

“I was there yesterday he was wearing a black top with a silver ring and he was very rude and abrupt to everyone that day that walked in whilst I was there. He made me feel uncomfortable the way he was with everyone and he had very poor mannerisms.”

“In short food quality is very average relatively to other places on west road. In addition, to the extortionate prices. I had ordered aloo paratha and a few other things. The smallest portions with the most average taste and biggest price tags.”

“Poor service. Lady seems nice to men but cold toward women... misogyny? Dropped our food on the table like cutlery and walked away. No customer skills at all. Served my food earlier than his, making me wait significantly long for my husband to be served so we can both eat together. No common sense apparently either there.”
  • Raju Ahmed
“Very disappointing experience. I ordered breakfast and waited around 45 minutes, despite the restaurant not being busy at all — there was only one other table occupied. After waiting that long, I had to ask a member of staff where my order was. They checked and then told me it would be “2 minutes.” At that point, it honestly felt like my order had been forgotten. What was even more disappointing was the lack of a proper apology or any explanation for the long wait. I understand that delays can happen, but making a customer wait 45 minutes in an almost empty restaurant without any update is not acceptable. The service definitely needs improvement.”
