Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out friendly, attentive staff, and the praise for the food follows close behind, notably the fish and chips and a roast lamb described as perfect, with other diners calling their meals delicious and well presented. The grounds and terrace come up repeatedly, with comfortable terrace seating, wine outdoors, picnic tables on the grass, a welcome for dogs, and a good selection of craft beers and ciders. Several describe a warm, welcoming interior and chose the pub for birthday celebrations. One reviewer describes a Friday evening that went differently. Pizza listed online was no longer being served at 8.30, terrace tables were uncleared and flies were constant, and there was a long wait to order at a quiet bar. The food then arrived without cutlery, and the chicken burger was overcooked. That reviewer called it a sad change from the pub they knew. Another party of 13 with two baby buggies was made to feel comfortable, and a server arranged a candle for the birthday ice cream.

“Rare child free night, last minute plan. Friday night, lovely sunny evening. Googled outfoxed, said serving pizza until 9pm, raced to get there by 8.30 to be told they weren’t serving anymore. No apologies, quite blunt. Very frustrated but decided we were hungry - we’d sit on terrace and eat from restaurant. Went to main bar, ordered some drinks and took to terrrace. So many tables still uncleared limited where to sit, but also no doubt contributed to constantly batting away flies. Never seen so many. Couldn’t manage just to enjoy a drink as a result - decided to go inside as we definitely couldn’t eat like that. Sat in main bar, went to a pretty empty bar to order (never seen it so empty on a Friday night) husband timed it - a solid 15minutes before managed to order. Was tempted to go elsewhere but given the time by this stage, we felt abit trapped to stay. Food came, pretty much thrown onto table, no cutlery brought. No pleasantries. Food was in fairness hot, but chicken burger very over cooked. Went to get cutlery, again no one around to help. Wandered to where the “base” is, apologetic lady passed over. Never saw anyone beyond this. Anywhere else it’s usual to have some at least come by, ask “can we get you any sauces?” Or “how’s the food?”. No one to be seen from food been thrown down until we left - apart from a table of what looked to be 18-20yr old lads, and a bunch of young looking girls in front of fire place. Not the usual. A complete change and very sad change to what we know as the red fox”

“Was there on Friday evening with two friends celebrating, as had just finished my job after 24 years and starting a new one on Monday! What an absolutely lovely evening we had , met some lovely people while having a drink outside before going in to eat , what can I say ! The food is second to none ,best fish and chips for miles!! And we were served by the lovely Eva, what an absolute asset she is to the red fox, so pleasant and attentive, and we all wished her well in her uni studies! So yep we will definitely be going back, and hopefully very soon !! 😁”

“We went here for a relative's special birthday. It was perfect 🥲. The table was beautiful. The staff was so accommodating of our large group of 13 people plus two baby buggies. The food was delicious. Everyone there commented that this was a good choice. The gentleman serving us made such an effort to make us feel comfortable and even arranged for a candle for my relative's birthday ice cream! Thank you so much for making this a special occasion that we will not forget!”
