About Turtle Bay Manchester Northern Quarter
Turtle Bay Manchester Northern Quarter is a Caribbean restaurant at 46-50 Oldham St in Manchester, built around a jerk pit where ingredients marinate for 24 hours in a jerk rub before they are flame-grilled. The menu runs from jerk fried chicken and chips to crispy wings in a Hot Mango flavour. The okra and spinach curry is served with rice and peas and a side of plantain. Customer Review Summary
Bottomless brunch is the draw reviewers raise most, with several describing drinks that kept flowing, food served fairly quickly and servers who always knew when the next round was needed. Cocktails get consistent praise for their variety, some sweet and some sour, and the happy hour is singled out by one diner. Among dishes, the okra and spinach curry is recommended even for non-vegetarians, served with rice and peas and plantain. The jerk fried chicken and chips won over one family so completely they came back for a full dinner, and one reviewer's seafood impressed a skeptical brother enough to order second plates. A chocolate brownie is called genuinely excellent. Service is the other recurring theme, with friendly, attentive servers and a welcoming host mentioned repeatedly. The caveats are about flavour. One reviewer found the Hot Mango sauce on the crispy wings lacked both sweetness and heat, though the wings themselves were crispy, and another found the curry good but not the best in Manchester. Reviewers still return for the atmosphere and drinks, with one planning to try a different wing flavour next time.

“Love the decor at Turtle Bay. That and the food & cocktails, it's almost like you're on holiday! Particularly recommend the okra and spinach curry, even if you're not a vegetarian! We had it with rice and peas and a side of plantain. Thank you to our friendly and upbeat server Patrick. Always great to have servers who emit sunshine like him! Please let him know! Great end to our Sunday in Manchester.”

“We stumbled across Turtle Bay completely by accident. My daughters had grabbed some of their jerk fried chicken and chips as a takeaway while we were having a drink outside at a local bar nearby. It was so incredibly good that we knew we had to come in for proper dinner!Upon arrival, we were greeted by Luke. He was incredibly friendly, warm, and welcoming. We originally intended to just grab a quick bite, but his fantastic energy convinced us to stay for a full dinner and a few cocktails.A massive thank you to Luke for making our night so special. He is an absolute asset to the team and a great host! We will definitely be back.”

“The food was amazing Luc and Patrick were super amazing. I took my brother out from Guernesey and he thought I could not impress him with seafood but he bowed🤣, we had to order second plates. Thank you so much to the bar man who was on shift as well.”

“A really enjoyable stop in the Northern Quarter, especially if you catch the happy hour. The place has a lively atmosphere but still feels comfortable enough to sit back and take your time, and the service was warm and attentive throughout. The curry was good, although not the best I have had in Manchester. The real highlight for me was the chocolate brownie genuinely excellent and worth saving room for. Add the happy-hour drinks and it ended up being a very pleasant meal overall. Not a place I would visit only for the curry, but definitely somewhere I would happily return to for the atmosphere, service, drinks and that brownie.”
