Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the vegan pork belly sisig, called a specialty that even meat eaters are urged to try, while a chicken sisig is praised as creamy and tangy over jasmine rice. Close behind are the house-made ube cream cake and ube cheesecakes, along with halo halo, tofu adobo and a milo one reviewer calls the only good one in England. Vegan, gluten free and halal options come up repeatedly, and portions are described as generous or huge, enough for lunch the next day. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and a small cupboard of Filipino staples is sold. The criticism centres on flavour and value. One reviewer found a kimchi bowl bland, with unbuttery rice and tofu that tasted like a supermarket pre-marinated pack, and another felt a noodle dish had too much rich sauce and few side options. Two reviewers call it overpriced, citing paid extras for a fried egg and garlic rice, small bao, and a waitress who tried to upsell. Another diner was served an off menu dish after asking.

“Moved to Didsbury a couple of months ago and have visited Mama Z’s too many times to count since. Everyone’s super friendly and the food is so GOOD! There’s a great vegan selection (special shout out to halo halo and tofu adobo) and the portions are huge. The atmosphere is relaxed and feels super homely.”

“My sister and I visited on Sunday and had lunch. We both really enjoyed the food and drinks, there were loads of options for me(vegan), they also have lots of GF options and everything is halal. They even do a vegan pork belly, which I've never seen anywhere else! The portions were very generous(enough for lunch the next day - yay!!) They make their own cakes too! I got 2 slices of the ube cream cake which were enjoyed by my dad and partner. Service was great also and love the decor and atmosphere 💜 Hopefully will be back again soon. Thank you Zos & the team at Mama Z 🩷”

“Overpriced food and a waitress that tried to upsell everything. Aubergine dish with garlic rice costs £19.50 inc. of £2 for a fried egg & £1.50 for garlic rice. Small Bao was £7 each.”

“19.07.26: Staff were polite and I have wanted to try this place for a long time. I am nervous to share too much detail because the owner seems to get very offended from any feedback, but I felt for the price my Kimchi bowl just wasn’t it. The buttery rice was not buttery and not a generous portion, kimchi was perfect but possibly too much and overpowering the dish. I added tofu, which tasted the same as the pre marinated sainsburys pack and added a lot of moisture to the dish. £16.50 we both found it bland. That being said, my husband mostly enjoyed the Kare-don noodles, and they had a lot of specials which looked great and were also sold out which is a great sign! I would go back, and would try something else I think. Response to the owner 28.07.26: when I said you get offended with feedback this was based on your replies to other reviews. You come off very defensive. I believe the only response is that feedback should be taken on board from customers as “we are always right” - I said the food was bland because it was bland Food should not be served and left to the customer to “season to their liking” - I can do this at home. Same with the alterations. Thanks!”

“Amazing amazing food! Lovely staff and the only place in England where I've had a good milo! They also do amazing Ube cheesecakes, lattes and have a little cupboard filled with Filipino staples to shop.”
