About Albert’s Didsbury Restaurant & Bar

Albert's Didsbury Restaurant & Bar is a modern European restaurant at 120-122 Barlow Moor Road in Didsbury, Manchester. It belongs to a group whose first restaurant was in Castlefield, and that group designs and develops its own sites, so the interiors follow a design-led approach. The menu leans modern British, with a smaller selection of dishes from around the world. Ginger and coconut chicken comes with rice, and Sunday has a roast with beef. The lunch menu runs as two courses or three, and a chicken orzo soup is one of the starters. In the evening the music moves through classics from the 60s to the 2000s. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the coconut main with rice from the new menu, described as chicken in a coconut base with ginger, while the chicken orzo soup and asparagus starters also earn praise. Cinnamon French toast bites with butterscotch sauce stand out among desserts, and the fixed price lunches are repeatedly called good value. Service comes close behind, with reviewers describing friendly, attentive young staff who pitch in together, a warm welcome, and a vibrant atmosphere with 60s to 2000s classics that are not dominatingly loud. Complaints centre on some dishes rather than the room. One Sunday roast diner found the beef chewy, with two very small slices and minimal veg, and a cheese and onion pie was also small. Another found the duck slightly overcooked, and a lunch guest called the doughball dessert a little dry and said no single dish would bring them back. One family describes a waitress patiently looking after a hard of hearing grandfather and a restless baby.

“We were served by Anastasia, she was oozing a natural Northern charm, the type of service that can never be taught, it is something she just has. We were 6 fellas going to watch United and our pre-match meal is a big part of our day... oh... I almost forgot, the food was great too.”

“We returned to Albert's after about 12 years (since son moved on from Didsbury). It did not disappoint! Excellent young staff, all pitching in to make sure we were well looked after, excellent food and a vibrant atmosphere (even on a Tuesday evening). The music was great as well - not dominatingly loud, but non stop classics from the 60s to the 2000s! A really enjoyable evening on our way to the airport - 100% recommended!”

“Lovely lunch today! We got 3 courses for £19.95 which was excellent value. I loved the chicken orzo soup starter! Ginger and coconut main was lovely too, as was the cinnimon French toast bites with butterscotch sauce and cream! 10/10 all round.”

“Work outing tonight at Albert’s was lovely, food was lovely, I ordered the mushrooms to start and the lobster ravioli for my main. It was nice, I wanted to try something different, I’d probably go for the steak or cheese pie if I went again. What made the evening more enjoyable was our waiter Connor. He was very attentive, good sense of humour and really made our night. I recognised Connor from a previous restaurant he worked at well over 2 years ago and that was purely based on his character.”

“I like the ambience in the restaurant, staff are friendly and seating is comfortable. I ordered the duck, the flavour was good but the duck could have been more pink, it was slightly overcooked for my liking. The desserts were okay, nothing special.”

Good to know

“Our menu is predominantly modern British with some carefully selected dishes from around the globe. From our first restaurant in Castlefield, our restaurants (which are all designed and developed by us) all aim to provide light and airy spaces and sharp, design led interiors with a focus on really good al fresco spaces that are some of the best in the north.”
