About Pranzo Italian Manchester

Pranzo Italian Manchester is an Italian restaurant at 55 King St in Manchester, serving a menu of dishes developed by the Nonna of founder Marco Greco more than seventy years ago. The kitchen makes its pasta in house and cooks Calabrese specials, with lasagne al forno among the mains and arancini served as a single ball to start. Tiramisu is the dessert on offer, and a gluten-free version is available for coeliacs. An Italian wine and cocktail list runs alongside the food. Marco, an independent restaurateur, first opened Pranzo in 2018, and the team shares the restaurant's history and gives menu recommendations at the table.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the staff, describing servers who chatted about the menu and the restaurant's history, offered recommendations and made diners feel welcome, with several calling the service attentive and friendly. The tiramisu comes up repeatedly, including a new gluten-free version one coeliac diner praised, and the lasagne al forno and focaccia are named as recommendations by another. Gluten-free diners say the team understood their needs and offered plenty of options. Food is described as tasty, exceptional and like home cooking from scratch, with good portions and a nicely presented plate. Reviewers also mention the decor and the space between tables. The criticisms are small. One felt the arancini was a single small ball and would not order it again, and another found the staff over the top friendly, asking too many times whether everything was ok, and thought the atmosphere was not the best. Several visited on the opening evening and praised the team for how well it went, with one saying nothing was too much trouble.

“Not the best atmosphere but the service was great and the food was amazing. The only issue was staff trying to hard to please, over the top friendly and asking too many times if everything was ok. Let’s us enjoy our meal.”

“Had such a lovely experience here for the first time! The food was really tasty, and the service made the visit even better. We ordered a bottle of wine, and Jack was so helpful in guiding me with my choice as I don’t normally drink wine. A massive shout-out to Alivia, who initially just came over to drop off our starter but ended up chatting with us about the menu, the background of the restaurant and sharing her recommendations. It was such a lovely touch and really added to the experience. Rachel was also amazing and so welcoming! My only small criticism was the arancini. I hadn’t realised it was just one small ball for £10.50, and knowing that now, I probably wouldn’t order it again. Overall, I absolutely loved my time here. The food, atmosphere and especially the staff made it a really enjoyable visit. Thank you to Jack, Alivia and Rachel for making us feel so welcome!”

“5/5 Stars — Absolutely incredible experience for coeliacs! I had the most amazing dining experience at Pranzo Manchester! As someone with coeliac disease, eating out can often feel stressful, but the team here made me feel completely safe and demonstrated a fantastic understanding of gluten-free needs from start to finish. To top it off, I had the privilege of being their very first customer to try their brand-new gluten-free tiramisu, and it was an absolute 10/10! A massive shoutout to Anna, our waitress, who was super attentive throughout the meal, and to the wonderful hostess (didn’t catch her name!) who truly made the whole experience special. I can’t wait to come back again soon. Highly recommended!”
