About Indian Affair Ancoats

Indian Affair Ancoats is an Indian restaurant at 46 Blossom St in Manchester, working from a short, straight-to-the-point menu. The lamb biryani arrives with yoghurt, pomegranate and mint, and it anchors the main dishes. Lamb chops are available as a starter, and lamb nihari sits among the curries. Vegan and vegetarian options are part of the menu, so mixed groups can order from the same list. Cocktails are on the drinks menu to go with the food.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the biryani, with the lamb biryani singled out repeatedly and one reviewer describing it served with fresh yoghurt, pomegranate and mint. Close behind are the lamb nihari, butter chicken curry and starter lamb chops, with ras malai, masala fries, garlic bread and a thin peshwari naan also named. Several describe the curries as aromatic and flavourful, and a few point to the cocktails. Reviewers repeatedly call the staff friendly and accommodating, including one solo diner who was looked after close to closing. Vegan and vegetarian dishes get praise from a couple of groups, and one reviewer liked that the menu was straight to the point. The criticism is minor: one reviewer found the atmosphere a little too bright and wished the naan were more airy. Several mention the food arriving quickly, and one says the unassuming exterior gives way to a really good modern Indian dining room inside.

“I was just passing and decided to stop in for something to eat, and I’m really glad I did. The biryani was lovely, served with fresh yoghurt, pomegranate and mint, and the ras malai afterwards was just as good. The staff were genuinely pleasant and very accommodating, especially considering it was close to closing and I was dining on my own. Really nice atmosphere too. I’d definitely come back again.”

“I visited this restaurant on a Saturday for a birthday meal with friends. The food and drinks choice was extensive and the service was excellent, the waiters were really friendly and my group was well looked after. The food and drinks were served quickly, everything was well presented and really tasty! The following Monday I went with my friend and received exactly the same friendly service, more really good food and drinks too. I find this restaurant building unassuming on the outside but once inside it is really good, modern Indian food and drinks served by friendly staff. I would definitely recommend Indian Affair!”

“My husband and I came from London and, having tried Indian food in many places over the years, we can honestly say this is one of the best Indian restaurants we’ve ever visited. The food was exceptional and every dish was packed with flavour. We highly recommend the lamb biryani, lamb nihari, and butter chicken curry – all absolutely sensational. I wasn’t asked to write this, but Ebin who served us had a warm, genuine, and welcoming service which made our experience even better.”

“Absolutely 💯 recommend. The food was amazing, the restaurant is very comfortable and so convenient. The staff very attentive. My biryani portion was very generous, and the peshwari naan bread was thin and delicious. Thank you for a most enjoyable meal.”
