About The Golden Gate
The Golden Gate is a Chinese takeaway in Manchester, at 72 Stockport Rd, that also sells fish and chips, so a Chinese order and a chippy order can come from the same place. On the Chinese side, the kitchen makes sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice. The chippy side adds fish and chips, and chips with gravy are a way to round out a meal. The Golden Gate serves food for collection.

Reviewers most often mention chips, gravy, egg fried rice and fish and chips.
Customer Review Summary
Chips are the most mentioned item, and opinions split sharply. One reviewer praises salt and pepper chips with egg fried rice, and another calls the fish and chips fresh every time. Others report undercooked chips, or reheated ones as hard as rock. Gravy draws the clearest complaint: two reviewers describe it as black and thick, one comparing it to tar and noting a funny taste. Mushy peas are called watery and strangely sweet, and one diner found the fish soggy and undercooked. Order accuracy is a further problem. One customer received lemon chicken they never ordered and says the woman answering the phone was rude about it. Another got two portions of sweet and sour sauce, soft chicken instead of crispy, and no crispy seaweed, even after repeating the order back. On the positive side, reviewers mention big portions, quick service, soft noodles, and a sour chicken soup seasoned with a kick of black pepper. Long-time regulars say the staff are friendly and remember their usual order.

“Worst chippy I've ever had. I ordered chips, gravy and mushy peas. The chips were undercooked, the gravy was black and thick, and the mushy peas tasted more like garden peas in a watery liquid and were strangely sweet. Definitely won't be going back. Never again.”
