About Happy Seasons Restaurant
Happy Seasons Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant at 59 Faulkner St in Manchester, serving traditional Cantonese food with roast meats at the centre of the menu. Char siu, roast pork and roast duck come over rice or together on a plate of three roast meats. The dining room is plain, with white walls and bright lighting, and tables turn over quickly. The restaurant opens daily, and a wait of about half an hour is common at busy times. Diners can pay by cash or card.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split on the roast meats, which are the most-mentioned item. The three roast meats over rice draw praise as an absolute delight, and the brisket on rice is called soft and tasty, while others call the char siu dry and bland, the roast pork not very crispy, and the barbecue pork extremely fatty. One diner says two of the three meats were mainly fat. Close behind, the siu mai is described as among the best and biggest one reviewer has had, and the salt and pepper prawns are called nice. Salt and pepper chicken needed longer in the fryer, and salt and pepper wings were called disgusting. Many praise quick, friendly service, huge portions, and a buzzing, no-frills room, though one finds the white walls clinical. Queues of about half an hour are mentioned more than once. The sharpest complaint is a takeout order for a whole roast duck that reportedly arrived as one leg and two tail ends, after staff rushed the customer out while it was cut.

“Really enjoyed the food and service in this place. My friend and I shared some dishes. The 3 roast meat is an absolute delight. The brisket on rice is so soft and tasty. Very nice and cool inside. Needed after the heat of summer in Manchester. A lovely cold tsingtao bottle beer to wash it down with too. Highly recommend.”

“after hearing and seeing the repeatedly viral videos about this place, i finally had the chance to go while up in manchester for a gig. don't listen to the hype, this place isn't going to blow your socks off. the only thing that makes this place traditional is roast meats which aren't very good frankly, the char siu is dry and bland, the roast pork had good flavour but not very crispy, and the duck is pretty unidentifiable, however understand that being in Manchester, this place must be an institution. Salt and pepper prawns were nice, first time having without batter and the siu mai was some of the best and biggest I've had, didn't get a picture. Most people seemed to be having more anglo-fied Chinese food, sweet and sour, ribs etc which I imagine is a lot better, but yeah, given I've had a lot better in London (although more expensive), disappointed given all the talk!”

“Food quality really went down hill compared to a few years ago. Prawns & corn were tasteless and soggy. Prawn toast was relatively ok. Salt and pepper wings were disgusting. The beef was the least appealing, not horrible, but not great either. We also got the 3 roast meats over rice. 2 of the meats were mainly fat. Egg fried rice was barely warm. We were so excited to be back and left so disappointed. 😔 To top it all off, we were sat next to a table of very loud Brits that made things even worse. So we took most of the food with us, instead of sitting down and having a normal meal.”
