About Only Yu Oriental Cuisine
Only Yu Oriental Cuisine is a Chinese restaurant in Manchester's Chinatown, with Chinese décor throughout the dining room. Dim sum is ordered by ticking an order sheet, which sorts dishes into steamed, deep fried, cheong fun and specialty categories and is partly written in Traditional Chinese characters. Regular dim sum comes with 4 pieces per order, and the list includes siu mai and rice rolls such as 鲜虾肠粉. Beyond dim sum, the kitchen turns out roast duck, siu yuk and a roast trio, along with clay pot rice and chicken feet rice. A wait for a table is common at lunch. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Dim sum is the main draw, described as authentic, plump and fresh, with the siu mai pork and shrimp dumplings called juicy. Close behind is the roast side: siu yuk with crispy skin, roast duck with a slight crisp like Peking duck, and a roasted chicken with plenty of meat on the bones. Others mention clay pot rice with short ribs and chicken feet, and soft beef in the dry beef ho fun. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive. Complaints centre on consistency. One reviewer found the shrimp rice roll skin had a weird texture and called the rest mid, another thought the xiao long bao average, and one found the jasmine tea lacking in aroma. Orders sometimes came wrong, including a custard bun instead of the ordered mantou. A crispy durian pastry arrived frozen in the middle, and staff replaced it with a freshly cooked one.

“One of the best dim sum and roast duck restaurants we have visited in the UK! I love that dim sums are plump and it comes with 4 for regular dim sums. The roast trio was also good, siu yuk had crispy skin and the roast duck skin had a slight crisp that resembles Peking duck. All staffs were super friendly and welcoming. Will be back soon!”

“We came here while on holiday after seeing all the great reviews, and it was definitely worth a visit. The service was excellent throughout. Our first order of the crispy durian pastry was still frozen in the middle, but the staff apologised and quickly replaced it with a freshly cooked one. The Sweet & Sour Crispy Pork was delicious. It’s a little different from the traditional version as you pour the sauce over yourself, which keeps the coating nice and crispy. The portions were very generous. My husband felt there wasn’t much monkfish in the monkfish dish, and we thought the xiao long bao were just average. Overall, the prices were very reasonable. We paid just over £110 for five people, which we thought was great value. We’d happily come back.”

“Why??? Why did I not come here sooner? It’s probably one of the most authentic dim sum places i’ve come across. And I don’t hate to say it, but for a chinese restaurant the service was top notch. Attentive staff and friendly.(not many cases as such) The food comes out hot and fresh. I definitely will be back to try out more of the menu. Oh ya I got take away since I was so impressed by the dim sum. Got Crispy Noodle Beef Chow Mein and Dry Beef Ho Fun both dishes were great! This place knows how to make soft beef.”

“We landed on airport from Cancun ( 10 hrs flight ) around 10am . After solved our luggage’s , take train to city and walk to this restaurant at 12:05pm , it on second floor , few customers walk down told that already full house , at lease 1.5hrs table waiting 🙀! They just open on 12noon ! We tried ours best to pulled the door and ask , only table for two ! Very lucky the set up a small table for us . After order six dim-sum and a roast pork rice .. .. meals serve times 25mins to a hours 😪, even really delicious, but the mood of eating get cool down . Maybe skip the rush hours will get better experience.”
