Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the bold, spicy Hunan flavours, with the pork fried beans, stir fried pork with peppers and dry pot potatoes singled out for smoky, well-seasoned cooking. Close behind are the salt and pepper ribs, crispy spicy chicken, trout, mapo tofu with a hint of sweetness, and the Hunan bacon, while the dim sum taster and short rib beef also get good words. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, and some mention a choice of spice levels.

“This restaurant is a great place to experience China's Hunan regional cuisines. Hunan cuisine is famous for its bold, vibrant flavours. Unlike Sichuan food, which is known for its numbing peppercorns, Hunan dishes focus on fresh chillies, garlic, and aromatic spices. The flavours are typically spicy, savoury, smoky, and deeply satisfying, often balanced with a touch of tanginess from pickled ingredients. The dishes go well with Plum juice. Right in the heart of Manchester China town. Booking in advance is recommended.”

“Been here twice now, both the food and the staff were lovely. Very authentic Hunan cuisine with a choice of varying spice levels. Would recommend the Hunan bacon and the hot plate tofu and minced pork.”

“Very enjoyable visit to Hunan a couple of weeks ago. The lemon chicken lacked, wouldn't order again. Dumpling was good. Managed to get the whole duck by chance as hadn't ordered ahead. Incredible service and all very tasty, didn't love the fried salt & chilli bone in parts. Short rib beef dish was good. Sauce in the spicy kidney dish was also very tasty and aromatic, though its an aquired texture in the kidney. Everything was very rich, we were aware we'd over ordered but definitely don't need to over eat here its very filling. Lots of options from fillet steak to offal. Will 100% return to try other dishes. It's expensive but its really good quality.”

“Some nice some not rice, 7/10 standard issue rice good texture not overcooked. pork fried beans, 9/10. very nice authentic example of this dish beans were cooked to perfection with a slight squeaky crunch. the pork was very well seasoned with a good level of spice. stir fried beef, 5 out of 10. not very good flavour. the beef seemed like it had been pre-cooked and the texture was a bit tough. chewy and not very nice. salt and pepper ribs, 8/10. lovely text you on the outside with the starch being crunchy and chewy. good flavours from the salt and pepper. the meat was a little bit dry but had a nice level of chew crab and sweet corn soup, 7/10. nice enough soup. the crab meat was a bit mediocre. not entirely sure if it's crab meat or just fish sticks. the sweet corn kernels were a bit chunky which wasn't bad but I prefer it broken down a little bit more.”

“Reasonable authentic experience in Chinatown Manchester. Went here on a Thursday afternoon so good service was quiet. We went for the crispy beef and the five flavour spring chicken. The food was a decent quality but I don't know if it's the best value for money for the price! We also got the dim sum taster which was good albeit pretty small portions for the price. I felt that it was a good authentic experience and the staff were very helpful.”
