About Red Chilli
On Portland St in Manchester, Red Chilli is a Chinese restaurant at number 70-72 that serves both Hong Kong style and Sichuan style dishes. Boiled beef with chilli is the lead dish on the menu, and cumin lamb sits alongside it for diners who want more than one chilli-led plate. The menu also runs to noodle dishes and noodle soups, which gives the table a milder option next to the spicier plates. Tea is served in a pot, with chrysanthemum among the choices.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the spicy Sichuan dishes, with boiled beef with chilli named as the signature and Sichuan spicy chicken praised as authentic and big. Close behind are Grandma Chilli sauce frog's legs, crunchy fried chicken with loads of chillies, pork intestines in a spicy hot pot stew, cumin lamb, gung pow chicken, beancurd in duck egg and beef brisket noodle soup. Several mention generous portions, quick service and pots of chrysanthemum tea, and the restaurant is also described as serving Hong Kong style dishes. Staff are called friendly and attentive by most, though one reviewer found them not friendly at all and another wanted the beef in chilli oils spicier and more numbing. One longtime regular misses the mutton ribs that left the menu. A recurring habit is pouring egg fried rice into the boiled beef dish.

“I had a Sichuan Spicy Chicken and a plain rice. The chicken was very authentically made, in a big portion. Highly recommend this place if you are scouting for spicy Chinese food.”

“my favourite Chinese restaurant in Manchester. signature dish is the boiled beef with chilli. I order that and egg fried rice and pour the rice into the dish. I no longer live in Manchester so this quality food is not on my doorstep. So I go whenever I'm in town. The atmosphere is perfect. if you like chinese/canton food, this is the authentic place”
