About Gerry’s - Chinese Pancake House
Gerry’s - Chinese Pancake House is a Chinese takeaway food truck at 128 Market St in Manchester, in front of Primark between Piccadilly Gardens and Market Street. The menu centres on jianbing, a Chinese egg pancake made to order. Customers choose a filling, with meat and vegetarian options including spicy cumin chicken, and pick their toppings as the pancake is made, with kelp available as an add-on. The spice level can be adjusted to suit the customer. Fried rice and noodle dishes round out the menu, along with panfried flat noodle (烤冷面). Because each order is prepared fresh, a queue forms at times. Payment is cash only, and card payments are declined.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the jianbing, the savoury egg pancake, with the spicy cumin chicken version singled out for a good level of spice and a light, soft pancake. Portions are described as huge, and several say one jianbing fills a meal, with some unable to finish it. Close behind are the rice and noodle dishes, including salt and pepper chicken fried rice, spicy cumin chicken noodles and salt and pepper beef noodles, which one diner calls stir fried to perfection. Vegetarian fillings and a kelp topping also get mentions, and one reviewer warns the spice can run a bit too hot. The complaints recur. The van is cash only, which several flag. A few report slow service, with one person working a queue. One found the chicken wrap average and the fried rice seemingly pre-cooked, another called the noodles soggy and too sweet, and one says the counter worker shrugged when asked for recommendations. Others praise friendly, helpful service, and one says the jianbing was so big it was split into two portions to eat later.

“No surprises this place being here for more than 10 years- huge portions of interesting delicious food with friendly helpful service - they'll even talk you out of buying an extra topping if they think you have chosen too much!!! Jian Bing so big they split it into 2 portions so I can eat one later!! Add kelp and tell yourself youre bring healthy 😆 Check out the interesting Chinese menu too if you fancy a meaty extra.”

“The jianbing was enormous and I couldn't even finish it - well worth the 8 GBP price! It was also quite delicious: the meat (Cumin and spicy pork) was crispy and well-seasoned and the pancake was soft. A good place for a quick lunch, especially if you share with someone else. However, the service was bad. There was just one person serving a queue of 5 and she was slow - we waited over 20min. The truck is also cash only. What I didn't like is that the person didn't speak English, she made a face on my pronunciation of the foods and she started speaking in Mandarin to my partner based on his looks. He is asian but not Chinese and she just assumed based on his appearance.”

“Taste:🤮 Service: 👎 Value: 🤏 Experience: 🤬 The noodle was so soggy and too sweet. Worst experience ever have. Declined card payment at 2026 and been rude to my friend. Never came back!”

“They have opened for over 10 years! Serving very delicious food famous for their savoury egg pancakes, on this occasion I got the salt and pepper beef noodles takeaway. It was stir fried to perfection and with rich flavour. Only £8.5 for a hot lunchtime option! Highly recommend them. Great customer service from Mr Zhuang and his chef assistant.”

“***CASH ONLY*** Great little food van serving delicious Jian Bing pancakes. The portion sizes are pretty decent and they'll accommodate your spice tastes (I had mine extra spicy and it didn't disappoint).”
