About Rowntree's Cafe
Rowntree's Cafe is a Manchester cafe at 20 High St, built around a 57-dish breakfast menu. Egg, bacon and sausage sandwiches are served as a barm, muffin or roll, which lets you choose the bread that suits your order. The sandwich list runs through pairings such as Bacon + Egg and Cheese + Ham, so the fillings are easy to mix and match. The Mini Brunch rounds out the breakfast options for anyone after something lighter than the full list suggests.

Customer Review Summary
The criticism centers on quality. A few call the food average, citing instant coffee, a weak cup of tea, catering-style sausages, burnt and chewy bacon and canned mushrooms. One reviewer felt a sandwich and drinks for two cost too much for what arrived, and another found service a bit slow, having to ask for a forgotten tea. One reviewer notes it can get busy, with locals and regulars filling the tables.

“First off to say, no issues with food or service (per se) And if I could do 3.5* I would. But 4 is too much, so rounded down. Came in sat down, not overly busy. Checked the menu and then someone came over to take our order. Sausage and egg (barm/muffin/roll) and bacon and Sausage (barm/muffin/roll) with a tea and coffee. Tea wasn’t great, like 5 seconds of tea bag could have left it in - other half said coffee was instant, and “average” Food was good ultimately - no complaints. But was catering sausages. Nothing special/local. I do not think it was worth the £17 price tag. I’d say maybe £10/12 tops (given the Arndale/central location) but the price/quality just isn’t there. A barm and a brew for a fiver would be reasonable. Pricier than Greggs - but I’d personally say, not as good. But £8.50 (roughly) it is not. Service was quick and friendly - and plenty of tables, of various seating sizes.”

“Firstly, the staff were so friendly and approachable and provided a great service. Food came hot, and the portion size was amazing enough to feel satisfied. The price is also really worth it only £10 including a hot drink for the full English breakfast. Thank you so much Rowntree!! Will come back”

“Food was okay, not great. Didn't want to swap an item in the big breakfast (but then agreed to one extra egg for no sausages at all). Friendly service if not great, bit slow and forgot my tea; I had to ask for it. Fairly busy with locals and seemingly regulars.”

“I have given this 5 stars because I enjoyed my experience there. It is not a 5 star place, but it is exactly what I was looking for, real down to earth traditional English breakfast. I have hunted through Manchester for just the run of the mill place, nothing fancy, nice friendly staff, quick service, decent food, could not find one. This is it, and family friendly. I saw a lady get a baked potato, it was huge with a mass of filling, I could not believe she could eat it all! I will be back.”
