About The Wheatsheaf

The Wheatsheaf is a traditional pub on Oak Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter, behind Gullivers, with entertainment every night. Karaoke and a DJ fill the evenings, and an Andy Rourke mural is part of the setting. The open-plan interior has an old piano at the back. Guinness and Cruzcampo are on tap, though the pub does not serve real ale. Food is served too, and the pub has recently been refurbished.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff and landlord at this old school Northern Quarter locals pub, with bar staff called excellent, the landlord described as welcoming, and a really good price for a pint. A good pint of Guinness comes up repeatedly, one visitor calling it the first good one they had in Manchester. Close behind is the lively atmosphere: a DJ who had the place rocking from start to finish, and karaoke that looked busy at midday. One visitor came for the Northern Quarter mural and found a relaxed pub with good music. The drinks range draws some criticism. One reviewer notes it does not sell real ale, and another found nothing interesting on tap and settled for G&Ts, though service was good. The sharpest complaint is a single account of a female employee shouting What do you want at a visitor who had come in to use the toilets and meant to buy a drink afterwards. Others mention outside seating for better days and an open plan interior with a DJ station.

“Rude and unwelcoming. I was walked in today to use the toilets and was looking to buy a drink after however was shouted at by a female employee saying “What do you want” as I explained I was just using the toilets. The disrespect I experienced was like nothing ive seen in any other NQ pub and I look to never return.”
