About The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun is a Manchester United-supporting "Red" pub on Lincoln Square in Manchester, at 22 Queen St. Live sport is shown on the TV, including football, and during matches the staff come to the table to take drink orders, so supporters can stay in their seats. A DJ runs a karaoke night for those who would rather sing than watch. The bar serves real ale from hand pumps, and three of them pour cider. Osset Silver King, Estrella Damm and Guinness are also on offer. Darts can be played, and the owners list pool tables as well. A statue of Abraham Lincoln stands nearby.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the atmosphere, especially on live sport nights when football is on and the pub fills up. Close behind is value, with several calling the drinks cheap for a city centre pub and one mentioning daily offers. Drinkers also single out darts, a karaoke night with a DJ one reviewer has never seen bettered, a great Guinness, and a run of hand pumps pouring real ale such as Osset Silver King alongside Estrella Damm. One long-time regular says the pub has had its ups and downs over the years but generally sells good real ale. The hosts and landlord come up repeatedly as friendly, kind and hospitable, and one reviewer says the new landlord has done wonders. One group who came for a Wednesday night match describe staff coming to their table for drink orders so nobody missed any of the game.

“Came for the football on Wednesday night and was not disappointed! A busy pub with an absolutely mint vibe! The staff could t do enough for us, even coming to our table to get our drinks orders so we didn’t miss any of the match! I’d recommend this pub to absolutely everyone and 100% i will be going back.”

“So, I’m a usual patron of The Rising sun inn, and normally it’s nothing but an outstanding establishment full of a good atmosphere and reasonable pricing especially for the city centre however, as of today that has changed somewhat as I finished my shift at the Grey Horse pub inn, I ventured towards the pub but needed a wee so decided to do so before I bought a pint, as another patron was about to order and due to me having my earphones as I was listening to my book, I didn’t really hear the bartender’s call or assumed it was at me, I then went to the toilet and was ambushed somewhat in the cubicle as I peed by said bartender as he explained the policy of the toilets being for customers, I then explained I was literally about to buy a pint but had non of it, profiling me as the skaters that linger outside the pub, purely due to my alternative appearance and didn’t let me say much any futher before he told I wasn’t welcome anymore. To be honest I just felt it was quite rude and to assume I’m not good on my word of purchasing a pint simply due to my appearance is out of order and frankly tells me alternative people aren’t welcome at the pub simply due to a skater problem in the vacuity of the pub. If I was a skater abusing the the ease of use of toilet in what world would i write this review as why would I care. As far as I’m aware it was the manager responsible for this behaviour, as I wouldn’t want the other bartenders to be looked upon unkindly. Just to add to this review, yea I was ambushed in the toilets not having the decency to wait till I finished to then talk to me, also is there any need to pick of my grammar and finally I was for sure profiled due to my appearance I had a slipknot shirt and a patch jacket and you assumed I was a skater taking the piss, by using the toilets without buying a drink even though I was absolutely going too or should I piss myself as I order a pint.”
