Customer Review Summary
The beer selection is what reviewers raise most, from the house Marble Brewery beers and an American pilsner to IPAs, ciders, milds, stouts and a German lager. Close behind is the food, with the Sunday roast, pork belly, a panko fried chicken sandwich with pickled fennel and chilli jam, and fish and chips singled out, plus cheese boards and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Several praise the stunning tiled interior, the sloping floor and the historic decor of the 1888 building, along with friendly staff and a cozy feel. One diner was impressed watching the kitchen team work. Reviewers suggest reserving, noting the place was packed, and one found booking the Sunday roast online weeks ahead easy. The one sharply negative account comes from a reviewer who calls the food mediocre and the beer decent but overpriced, says dogs were not truly welcome, and reports being overcharged, with the bill folded up so the total could not be seen before paying.

“Was overcharged quite badly and about to pay until I noticed. They even folded the bill up so I couldn’t see it. Mediocre food, decent beer but manically overpriced. Dogs not truly welcome either. Will not be returning.”

“Great place - do visit if you're nearby. A wider and interesting selection of beers, tasty food on offer and really friendly staff. I came for one with some friends and we ended upstaying for a fair few more, together with eating too. Nice historical decor really top the place off with it's traditional boozy vibe.”

“Beautiful pub serving good ale . Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat but it looked amazing. The tiles are wonderful and the floor as a right slope which adds to the atmosphere of the place . It was worth the long walk up to it to visit such a lovely place”

“Great hotel with a fantastic pub and a really good atmosphere. They have an excellent selection of draft beers and a solid choice of classic pub food. The location is also very good, with a nice setting facing the water. Definitely a place I would recommend.”
