About The Edinburgh Castle Pub
The Edinburgh Castle Pub is a 19th-century pub in Manchester at 17 Blossom St, with live folk music every week. The ground floor centres on a long marble-topped bar, with tables around it and high stools along the bar, and drinks are served in the rooms on that level. Upstairs is the dining area, where the first-floor restaurant runs a seasonal menu using local produce. The building is a former Whitbread pub that reopened after a refurbishment. Three cask beers are on handpump, and the house beer is brewed by Ringwood. Craft beers, foreign beers, whiskies and gins fill out the rest of the drinks list. Payment is by card only.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the pie, with one calling it the best they have ever had and another sharing a Guinness pie alongside oysters, mussels, pollen sourdough and sausage. Close behind is a seasonal menu built on local produce, where reviewers praise the asparagus dish, tomato salad, charred aubergine and proteins cooked to perfection, plus crispy pork belly with chicken fat fried rice. A Sunday lunch earns particular praise for its cauliflower cheese. The atmosphere is described as warm, welcoming and homely, and the service as friendly and attentive. Complaints are modest but specific. One diner found only small, expensive glasses of wine and no large pour, another found the partridge tricky to eat and share, and a cask beer fan thought the lineup lacked imagination despite so much good local brewing. One evening visitor found it super quiet on a midweek night. The public bar, by contrast, is likened to a street corner local on match day, busy with drinkers around three cask beers on handpump.

“The public bar has the atmosphere of a street corner local on match day ⚽️. With so much fantastic cask beer brewed locally it’s such a shame the lineup here lacks any imagination.”

“Decent pub about 12 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station. Three cask beers on handpump when I visited. Busy after the Spurs game at the Etihad. This former Whitbread pub had been closed for many years but after a major refurbishment reopened as a pub on 14th November 2019 with a restaurant on the first floor. It has been tastefully renovated and as you enter from the corner door there is a long and impressive marble topped bar opposite. There are tables around the bar and high stools at the bar. In the area behind the bar there is more seating. The house beer is brewed by Ringwood and there is also an extensive selection of craft beers, foreign beers, whiskies and gins.”

“We celebrated our anniversary here last night. We hadn't been to the Edinburgh Castle before and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and very cosy. We came to dine here because we love head chef Gabe Lea's food who moved here from Maya. Yet again we were blown away by the menu. Locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. All the dishes we had were absolutely delicious and well worth the 2 hours travelling time to dine here. I'm sure Gabe's outstanding dishes, with his attention to detail will get his hard work recognised again soon by being listed in the Michelin guide again. With lots more accolades to follow. Well done team 👏”

“I had the pleasure of dining at the Bangkok Diner’s Club at Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The menu is a thoughtful take on Thai cuisine—beautifully presented, rich in flavour, and clearly prepared with care. Each dish brought a perfect balance of spice, freshness, and texture. The crispy pork belly in a rich, savoury sauce was a standout, complemented perfectly by the chicken fat fried rice and vibrant vegetables. The sides, from the delicate greens to the light, fluffy omelette, added depth and variety to the meal, making it feel both comforting and elevated. The atmosphere inside the Edinburgh Castle adds to the charm—warm, intimate lighting and a relaxed yet stylish setting that makes it ideal for both a casual night out or a special occasion. Service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, which really enhanced the overall dining experience. Bangkok Diner’s Club manages to deliver authentic Thai flavours while giving the dishes a refined edge, and it’s easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Manchester recently. Highly recommended.”

“Making my first visit since 1974 when this was a bleak and dodgy area north of the city centre and the pub was a back street local. To be fair the pub was shut for decades and Ancoats is a rapidly developing trendy area with lots of new places to eat and drink. Three real ales so Boothroyd had a Buxton bitter. Very good. Lovely pub. The upstairs is a dining area. The ground rooms for drinks. Will be back..I hope. Card only which annoys me but told they have been robbed three times so cashless to deter the scumbags.”
