About The Famous Crown
The Famous Crown is a pub in Didsbury, Manchester, on Wilmslow Rd, built around its original wrap-around bar. The kitchen works from a menu of 29 dishes, including Beef Wellington, a sirloin steak and a burger called the black sticks. Tater Tots with Gochujang Sauce sit alongside the heavier plates. The Sunday Roast Beef comes with roast potatoes, and chicken and vegetarian roasts are also on the menu. Roasts arrive on hot plates. Inside, a fireplace and several tucked-away corners give groups and pairs somewhere to settle. Live music and live singing run at the pub, and pub quizzes and tribute nights fill out the events calendar.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the Sunday roast beef, described as seasoned well and soft, with delicious roasted potatoes and hot plates that kept the meal warm. Close behind are the sirloin steak, cooked perfectly, and the black sticks burger, called one of the best one reviewer has had, alongside a vegetarian dish, a roast chicken dish and a lunch deal with small portions. Staff come up repeatedly as warm, welcoming and quick to serve even on busy Saturdays, and several mention friendliness toward their toddler or son. Diners also like the fireplace seating, the cosy nooks, the front and back gardens and live music. The one clear complaint is a dinner that took over an hour, arrived bland and lacking menu items, and the chef disputed the omission while the manager was said to be too busy to speak. Several praise how quickly their food arrived, and one reviewer left planning to return for a meal.

“I come here often for a casual drink on an evening however with seeing the delicious food I decided to bring my parents out for a meal. The food was delicious, and the staff were so warm and welcoming as always! We came with my son, and they were incredibly friendly and accommodating, which made the whole experience really relaxed and enjoyable. Such a lovely atmosphere as always but definitely come and try the food as well it’s amazing! Thanks guys, you know we’ll be back ☺️”

“I've been to this pub a couple of times, but this was my first time on a Saturday afternoon. Being the third pub on the Didsbury dozen, I thought it would be too busy, but I found myself a spot at the end of the bar, and was served immediately. The staff and managers were very attentive, despite being busy with large groups coming and going. Every time my pint got low, I was asked if I wanted a new one and John and Keisha chatted with me while at the nearby till and made me feel welcome. (Made me stay for 2 more pints than I intended) I didn't order food, but I saw the food coming out for other customers and it looked and smelled great, again, something I didn't think they would be doing on a rammed Saturday. I'll definitely be visiting again at a quieter time for a meal and will certainly be visiting more often for a pint.”

“Great pub. It can get really busy at the weekends but the staff are lovely, super attentive and you never have to wait long to be served which is a big sell of any pub! Good selection of beers. With a front and back garden makes it perfect in the sun too. Have been here for live music with resident Reece who’s amazing! I haven’t eaten here yet but the food always looks unreal. On the to do list. Combining the staff, drinks and atmosphere definitely one of the best options in Didsbury!”

“Really bad food ! Incredibly dissatisfied We waited over an hour for a very bland dinner that had been cooked a while ago 😅 I wish I had got a takeaway and saved my money. Prices DO NOT reflect on the products The food didn’t come with half the things stated on the menu , had more frozen veg than anything 😂 and when asked the chef about missing food they tried to argue the fact (obviously needs to remind themselves of the menu) Then after asking to speak with the manager he said he was too busy ! Lovely atmosphere in the pub, staff were very accommodating also.”
