About Sadler's Cat

Sadler's Cat is a pub on Hanover St in Manchester, run by Cloudwater Brewery in Sadler's Yard, close to Victoria Station and Shudehill. The bar began as The Pilcrow, a pop-up that became permanent, and Cloudwater's beers are the focus. The taps carry at least 10 keg beers, usually with 2 or 3 cask ales alongside, and the list is posted on Untappd. Cans, wines, soft drinks and cocktails round out the drinks. Inside, a long, narrow bar area has wood finishes and a dart board, and a beer garden sits alongside it for drinkers who want to stay out of the bar. Dogs are welcome, so regulars can bring them along. There is no food menu, so the drinks are the whole offer.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come mainly for the Cloudwater beer, with the Happy session pale ale named most often, alongside at least ten keg lines, a few cask ales and a good choice of craft beer. Close behind is the outdoor space, described as a lovely courtyard and a roomy plaza, with large seating for the sunny days. Several also mention the wood finishes, soft lighting and a dart board inside, and one singles out the cider. Service is called friendly by one reviewer, though another describes a cold reception from some staff who made it clear they didn't want anyone there. Other complaints are specific: one reviewer found the toilets very smelly with a broken hand dryer, another says there is no food menu, and a regular finds the background music, Nirvana played far too loudly at a quiet time, a common grumble. Many reviewers recall the venue's start as the Pilcrow pop-up, which proved so popular it became permanent.

“Nice, modern, pub situated handily close to Victoria Station. Having first visited ten years ago on its opening as "The Pilcrow" and frequently since: I thought it was time to update the review. "Sadlers Cat" is honour of James Sadler (and his cat) is a much better name for it. And with Cloudwater running it, the beer is better than ever. It has a long narrow bar area with additional seating outside in Sadlers Yard. There are usually 2 or 3 cask ales on offer alongside plenty of craft beer. On the downside, people do complain about the level of background music wvwn at quiet times. On this visit, it sounded like Nirvana was being blasted out far too loudly for the time of day. There are a couple of steps-with handrails at the main entrance but it is accessible via the middle double doors. Inside it is level and there is an accessible toilet.”

“Cloudwater brewery's cozy beer shed serves at least 10 keg beers and several cask options, alongside a smattering of cans, wines, and soft drink options. Nicely appointed in wood finishes, with soft lighting and a dart board as a bonus! Plenty of outside seating on the square for the warmer months”
