Customer Review Summary
Reviewers are split, and the most repeated complaint is slow, disappointing service around the meal itself. Diners describe orders mixed up, a long wait for mains, and a two-course meal that dragged on. The Sunday roast draws the most specific comment: one reviewer praises a massive Yorkshire pudding, while another found the roast beef tough and chewy and a third felt it was overpriced. A watery pie with uncooked veg and a burnt toffee pudding, met with the reply that customers normally like it, also come up. Several note a lack of atmosphere, with unreset tables, near-empty rooms and no background music. One vegetarian found no vegetarian roast on offer. Others mention a tired look, with dirty booth seating, weeds and dried-out plants. Praise centres on a good selection of beers on tap, a garden for children and dogs, and a big birthday party where staff were friendly and the rooms and breakfast suited the cost. One reviewer who came after a cricket match left happy with the beers and a game of hoopla.

“My partner and I stayed in one of the rooms at The Great Bull, and unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience. When we arrived, the window had been left fully open, and the room was full of mosquitoes. There was no air conditioning, and even the bathroom was swarming with them. We couldn't find any staff to speak to, and there was no phone signal in the room, or outside so we couldn't call the number that had been left on the wall for assistance. As a result, we had one of the worst nights' sleep. We were constantly being bitten and came home covered in mosquito bites, feeling unwell afterwards. It also looked like previous guests had experienced the same issue, as there were blood stains on the walls and a few squashed mosquitoes already there. It's a real shame because the property has potential, but this issue seriously affected our stay. I hope the management addresses it so future guests don't have the same experience.”

“We ate there on a Saturday night. Only one waiter, the chef was on holiday, the kitchen was understocked, meaning the only two interesting items listed on the menu were off, and the rest of the items were hardly 'gastro' - leading with burgers. Service was slow and mistakes were made. The waiter was very friendly, but it was a very underwhelming experience.”

“Was supposed to be a lovely mother's day dinner. Only two tables were occupied at 3.45 when walked in. Only two other tables were laid, the rest had been used and not tidied or reset. Zero atmosphere and when the singer paused between songs, it almost echoed in the room. We made our excuses and left before drinks were poured. The bar tables were empty also. Such shame for what should have been a much anticipated afternoon. Definitely not that same as it was 10 years ago and had such a good name.”

“Didn’t stay here so can’t comment on hotel side of things. Just had Sunday dinner. Massive Yorkshire pudding. That’s the best thing about it though I’m afraid. Thought it was overpriced for what you get. Service was ok.”

“We had a big birthday party booked at the Bull and Willow Room, they were fantastic. The food was amazing with hot and cold variety and every one of the staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The hall was perfect for us and the rooms and breakfast were comfortable and great choice for the cost. Really recommend this venue.”
