About Queens Head Inn Maldon

Queens Head Inn Maldon is a red-brick pub on The Hythe in Maldon, with a waterfront terrace that looks over the river and the Thames barges moored at the quayside. A log fire burns alongside real ales and a large selection of ciders on tap, including fruit-flavoured ones. The menu is eclectic, with haddock and chips, the Queens Head Burger and a hot seafood board among the plates. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar, where guests take a table number, as there is no table service. Parking restrictions apply nearby.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the riverside outdoor seating, where Thames barges moored at the quayside make the view, and one notes a large covered area at the front now handles rain and hot sun. Close behind is the food, with the haddock in light, crisp batter and the chips singled out, plus the Queens Head Burger, the Scampy with peas and chips, the Hot Seafood board and a bacon sandwich served with salad and chips. Diners also mention a large selection of fruit flavoured ciders on tap and a good choice of beers. Service is described as rapid, friendly and helpful, and one reviewer says staff were accommodating when a booking was cancelled and the meal was turned into a takeaway. The recurring drawback is crowding: reviewers say it gets very busy, with one expecting to stand during the day. Another says a table behind them made them uneasy over complaints about smoking smell. One reviewer notes it is not table service, so food and drinks are ordered at the bar with a table number.

“Visited for lunch on a Monday and will definitely be going back. The pub is clean and well kept with a large seating after outside with amazing views over the river. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were massive. Large section of cider on tap which is always a win for me and the wife.”

“We have eaten in here before and love this place Unfortunately our little boy was sick earlier in the day so couldn’t keep our table booking On Father’s Day I cancelled the booking and ordered for a take out and they were more than accommodating. Nothing was too much for them Still had the same quality of dinner at home while the little one was sleeping from being unwell! Absolutely treasure of a place ! Thanks for being so accommodating Even had a cider while I waited”
  • Sally Barrett
“Booked a table for 8 indoors for lunch with friends. The pub was very busy as it was a lovely sunny day. The service was great. The food came within good time and was hot and delicious. Highly recommended.”
