Customer Review Summary
The caveats cluster around Sunday lunch and consistency. One reviewer found the roast pork's potatoes disappointing and the gravy sweet. Another could not cut a potato with the knives, and second drinks arrived after the mains had been eaten. A regular calls the food average, citing unseasoned potato skins, a tiny side of guacamole with the fajitas, and a vegetarian specials option that is rarely offered, leaving the same four veggie meals on a menu unchanged for years. Large starters left one table too full for dessert.

“What a wonderful old worldly pub with huge dining areas inside and out. Food is excellent with a varied selection to choose from. After our second visit there it's our new gotta go to eatery. Previous preferences have fallen from our list!”

“Lovely atmosphere, busy but not loud we visited Sunday lunchtime. Staff were very efficient. I was one off a large group most of us had 2 courses. Apart from me everone was very happy to ok. I was disappointed with parts of my first course which was roast pork. The roast potatoes where very disappointing, the gravy was sweet which isn't to my taste but it may have been mentioned on the menu but i only glanced across as there were a group of us, and I hadn't had sweet gravy before.. Yes I ate nearly all of it as I was hungry so it filled me up rather than enjoyed it. Would I go again to eat yes but not to eat a roast.”

“I've eaten at the Anchor a lot over the years. It's a lovely pub with good service and we love that we can take our dog with us. I do feel that the food is very average though. Recently I had potato skins which were completely unseasoned with a garlic mayo dip, which litterally didn't taste of anything. My husband and I had the chicken fajitas from the specials. The chicken was lovely but the side of guac and cheese was so tiny. They also came with chips? Surely nachos or rice would be better? Dessert was lovely though. Also it's extremely rare that there is a vegetarian specials option which is disappointing because it means I have the same 4 meals to choose from everytime (and the menu has been the same for years) all of which are your standard veggie options. Really wish more imagination was given to the menu”

“Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Service was good although we felt a little rushed to order, which is understandable given it was a Sunday. Once the food arrived we were happy with the portions. My chicken burger was just ok in terms of flavour but everyone else enjoyed their meal. They are very dog friendly as a pub even with a doggy menu both in terms of hot food and pre made. We would go back again!”
