About The Muddy Duck
The Muddy Duck is a riverside pub at 1 Fullbridge in Maldon, set in a historic building that has been recently renovated. Pizza comes from Frankie Dee's, stone-baked and served from a hatch outside, so it can be ordered there and eaten indoors. An evening Thai menu runs alongside the pizza, and the rest of the menu includes Chicken Wings and Irish Coffee. A two-course Sunday lunch is also offered. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their pets along with family and friends.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers single out the stone baked pizza from the outside hatch most, with one calling it authentic Italian and another saying it would be worth a three hour drive. Close behind is the riverside setting, where the outdoor seating, a pint of Guinness and a few rounds of beers draw repeated praise, along with friendly staff and a renovated, clean historic building. One reviewer liked the Sunday lunch and apple crumble with custard, though found the food not as hot as they like. Another reviewer was disappointed that the pie of the day listed online was unavailable, then described a chicken burger with a cheap bun and katsu chicken fries that were chip shop curry sauce, calling it overpriced. A third found the background music loud enough to move to a quieter part of the pub, and one noted no beer on tap on their visit, only bottles. Dogs were welcome for one pizza eater, who plans to return in summer for pizza and beers by the river.

“Ducks spotted at The Muddy Duck! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and quick service. The place was clean, welcoming, and it’s the kind of pub where you end up staying for a few more rounds than planned. Definitely worth a visit.”

“Didn't eat here so can't comment on food, but was told they did some good ales on tap. No beer on tap this time, but some Decent beers in bottles.”

“Damn good pizza!!! It's the real deal stone baked type. Ordered from the hatch outside and ate it inside. Particualrly friendly and welcoming staff as well, especially the pizza chef 👨🍳🍕 Dog friendly as well which was perfect. We went in Winter, but looking forward to heading back in Summer and sitting out by the riverside for some more pizza and a few beers”

“Frankie dees pizza at muddy duck. Incredibly good authentic Italian pizza. My husband hates English pizza even in UK Italian restaurants. The only pizza he likes is pizza in Italy. Frankie dees is owned by a lovely guy who studied in Italy and has learnt exactly how to make them. It would be worth the 3 hour drive again just for the pizza. They really are that good.”
