About The White Hart
The White Hart is a pub at 107 The St in Chelmsford, with a garden and a heated marquee. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from seasonal homemade menus, and a weekly steak night sits alongside regular dishes like the 8oz fillet steak with mushroom sauce. Vegan options are labelled on the menu, and a vegan burger is among them. The bar pours cocktails, wines and ales to go with the food. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish reviewers raise most, with one praising an 8oz fillet cooked medium rare and another looking forward to steak night, though a third could eat only a third of a chewy steak. Close behind are a vegan burger described as full of flavour and texture, a big breakfast that arrived on a piping hot plate, a prawn salad and a cherry and pistachio sundae. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and diners say they were never rushed. Quiz night also gets a mention as well hosted. The complaints are mostly about busy occasions and extras. On Mother's Day, the set menu replaced the main menu, the kids menu offered only a roast, and plates sat uncleared between courses with too few staff. One diner felt the parsnips and squash were not spring vegetables, and another was charged 95p for a small pot of oat milk. For the breakfast, one reviewer wanted the sausages cooked more. One parent's daughter still got chicken and chips cooked as an exception.

“I recently visited with a group of friends and this was a great in-between location. I'm so glad we visited. We had a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and we especially appreciated that we never felt rushed at any point. It was nice to be able to relax, enjoy our meal, and spend time together at our own pace. The food was absolutely delicious, I had the Vegan burger and it felt like a real treat - full of flavour and texture; which sometimes is not the case for vegans! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating an elegant yet comfortable setting. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommended. Thank you”

“Lovely village pub on the edge of north Chelmsford. Service was very good. Looking forward to try the steak night in the near future!!!”

“Went for a meal for my wife's Birthday. She was disappointed in the seasonal vegetables, as they were parsnips and squash, which are not spring vegetables? We were also charged 95p for a small pot of oat milk, which when added to two small cups of coffee, made it a pricey beverage. My steak was cooked to how I asked, but I could only eat one third as it was quite chewy. My wife's Sea Bass was very nice.”

“I had a fantastic meal there on Wednesday evening with friends. The prawn salad was delicious and was on special offer. I also enjoyed the cherry and pistachio sundae. The staff were extremely friendly and gave us time to relax and enjoy our meal. I will definitely be going back!”

“We went on Mother's Day so booking was essential. There was a set menu and couldn't order from the main menu. That was fine for the adults, but the kids menu only offered a roast with no alternative. However they made an exception and cooked my little girl some chicken and chips. Food was good and portions were huge. The set menu was £37 for three course, which is great value. I would suggest there should have been an option for two courses, mostly due to the portion sizes. Staff were friendly and worked really hard but we had to wait a while between courses to have plates cleared. They could have done with more staff. I would definitely go back again but probably miss Mothers Day.”
