About Macellaio RC Soho - Teatro della carne
On Shaftesbury Ave in Soho, Macellaio RC Soho, Teatro della Carne, is a steak house built around an open kitchen where steaks are cut and grilled in view of the room. It was the first Italian restaurant to bring both the Fassona and Marango beef breeds to the UK, and dry-aged steak is served, often with hand-cut chips. Bone marrow tartare is frequently ordered as a starter, and the dessert side includes ravioli and chocolate cake. Counter seating overlooks the grill, while an upper floor offers a calmer spot away from it. Halal menu options are available. The restaurant operates on a walk-in basis, with no reservations taken. A 15% service charge is added to the bill.
Good to know
“Macellaio is an authentic Italian steakhouse in Soho, the heart of London. Macellaio is the third Italian restaurant in London from an experienced restaurateur Roberto Costa. Other locations in London include South Kensington and Clerkenwell. The sign on the restaurant building says "Il Teatro della Carne", which means "The Theatre of Meat". A new addition to the Macellaio meat restaurant concept, where our master butchers skilfully cut your steak. We're proud of be the first Italian Restaurant to bring both Fassona and Marango breeds to the UK. Marango is an unique cross breed , raised wild, high Omega-3. "We care deeply about the meat you eat, where it comes from, how it's raised , and how it makes you feel." RC”

Customer Review Summary
Steak cooked perfectly comes up again and again here, from a t-bone and chips to a Costata and a dry-aged cut, with the bone marrow tartare repeatedly singled out as a highlight alongside it. Pasta earns praise too, with the ravioli and carbonara mentioned favorably, and the tiramisu and chocolate cake stand out among desserts, though one reviewer called the profiteroles awful and found the chocolate cake a little dry. Service is mostly described as warm and attentive, with staff noted for talking diners through the wine list and menu, arranging a birthday candle, and leaving an anniversary message, though one visitor felt the welcome and menu walkthrough were lacking and another found service slow in parts. Value is the recurring tension: several call it pricey, one reviewer's halal pizza starter was called tiny and flat for the cost, and one diner felt the 15 percent service charge wasn't warranted given inconsistent tenderness and unrendered fat on the steak. Halal options are noted positively by multiple reviewers.

“Little too inconsistent across the whole experience. Setting was lovely in some parts but more 'rustic' and cheap feeling in others. Wasn't a fan of the seating and tables. Service was mostly good if a little slow in parts. Steak was mostly very nice but the tenderness varied throughout, which we found odd. Part of the fat was also not rendered and cooked properly. Pasta was mostly very good, with the ravioli standing out, but parts of it were cold for some reason. Brocoli was awful sadly, as it was overpowered by a very sour dressing. Carrots and chips were lovely. The real sour note sadly was the desserts. Chocolate cake was the best of the bunch, despite being a little dry. The profiteroles were frankly awful, and the pineapple was a bit sickly. 15% service charge was added, and personally, I don't think this experience warranted it. In hindsight, I would have had this taken off, given how expensive the meal was. I fear this place is now more of a tourist trap than somewhere memorable you'd go again for the food and experience. We all agreed that we probably wouldn't return, which is a shame.”

“Good food! We probably didn't try their best dishes but the roast was quite tasty and I loved their lard with focaccia.”

“This Soho steakhouse delivers a stylish, lively atmosphere without being overwhelming, paired with warm and attentive service. From the moment we walked in, the welcome was not really impressive. The waiter put down the menu but and didn’t walk us through the menu thoughtfully, even the wine list and the latter dessert ones. The dry-ages steak here should be genuinely perfect. and we thought the bone marrow tartare was an unexpected highlight. Wine offer is good but the price is a bit expensive. Overall a place with acceptable food quality and atmosphere. Quality of services aside, definitely could go jump for a meal.”

“Visited for a birthday celebration with a reservation. We were seated on the upper floor, which had a calm and refined atmosphere. The dishes were great — the fillet was amazing, and the broccoli paired really well as a side. The service was friendly, and they kindly added a candle to the dessert plate. It was a really lovely experience, and I was very happy to celebrate here.”
