About Sophie's Soho

Sophie's Soho is a steak house in London, set in a restored former cinema at 42-44 Great Windmill St, where high ceilings rise over an open pit grill. The room has multiple seating areas, and an open kitchen lets guests look in on the cooking. The steak menu offers a variety of cuts, with burger and lamb dishes alongside. A pre-theatre menu runs for two or three courses and includes steak frites and minute steak. On Sundays the kitchen serves a roast of pit-roasted prime rib and a leg of lamb to share, with Yorkshire pudding. Reservations are required. Jazz plays on Sunday afternoons.

Customer Review Summary

Steak draws the most praise at this Soho chophouse, with reviewers calling it perfectly cooked and flavourful, and a few ranking it among the best they have had in London. One diner singles out the steak, burger and lamb, plus potatoes they had never matched, and the cheesecake for dessert. Sunday meals draw their own praise: a lamb leg shared between three, prime rib with a proper Yorkshire pudding, and juicy pit-roast chicken, with jazz playing in the afternoon. Others mention buttermilk crispy squid, spicy margaritas, and a pre-theatre menu of minute steak, moules frites and crème brûlée, described as solid value though nothing show-stopping. The caveats are modest. One reviewer found the main steak menu unexciting, another wanted a finger bowl and a separate bowl for the moule shells, and one notes the room can be loud and prices run on the higher side. Service is repeatedly called friendly, and one server let a table order steak frites just before the cutoff, then held the food so it arrived hot for a friend who came late.

“The best Sunday roast we’ve ever had. We got the lamb leg to share between 3 hungry ladies and there was plenty of food, we left very satisfied. Lovely jazz music on a Sunday afternoon also. We’ll definitely be back in our next trip to London.”

“Definitely go to this place for their Steak frites, we were 5mins before the curfew for it, the server still allowed us to have the steak and frites which was 15pp and I was so thankful, they are so kind and served us and suggested to wait and make the food hot for my friend who arrived later, which was sooo nice of them! Highly recommended this place! So classy and nice to have drinks too!”

“If you’re looking for one of the best steakhouses in London, Sophie’s Soho is a place you shouldn’t miss. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere stands out. The restaurant has multiple seating areas, so whether you’re after a lively vibe or a quieter corner, there’s a space that suits everyone. The service was excellent throughout our visit—friendly, attentive, and professional. But the real highlight was the food. After years of visiting London almost every month and constantly searching for the perfect steak, I can honestly say I’ve finally found it. The quality of the steak was exceptional—perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and among the best I’ve ever had. I was also impressed by the variety of steaks on the menu, giving you plenty of great options to choose from. Everything we ordered was outstanding, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. Sophie’s Soho has officially become my number one steak restaurant in London. From now on, it’s the first place I’ll be visiting every time I land in the city. Highly recommended.”

“Visited this venue before watching Hadestown, and I came back very quickly after the show! Staff were so welcoming, including the friendliest security guard! Props to Jack for making me the best spicy margs I’ve tasted. When I return to London this will definitely be one of the first places I visit again. Thanks guys!”
