Quick info
About The Archduke
The Archduke is a steak house on Concert Hall Approach in London, set beneath railway arches with exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings. Live jazz plays alongside a piano bar, and trains pass overhead. The kitchen cooks steaks including rib eye and a rum steak, served with chips and garlic butter sauce. Two- and three-course set menus give diners a fixed-format option. The bar mixes cocktails, among them an espresso martini. An upstairs dining area has a large glass wall. Waterloo Station is a short walk away.

Customer Review Summary
Steak anchors the praise, with reviewers calling it tender and juicy, from a rum steak to one served with garlic butter sauce and chips. The burger comes close behind, with the beef standing out without heavy sauce, while fish and chips is described as enjoyable but less of a highlight. Also singled out are the cheese platter, mushrooms, soup and cocktails, including a very delicious espresso martini. Live jazz features repeatedly, and one diner recalls the band singing happy birthday. Others describe the railway arch setting, with exposed brick and trains overhead that never intrude on conversation. Service divides reviewers. Some call the staff friendly and welcoming, while others describe an abrupt waitress and a lukewarm welcome. One rib eye was found quite average, and the chicken in one Caesar salad arrived cold and dry. One reviewer reports being served an alcoholic mojito instead of a non-alcoholic one while on medication, and found the manager's response dismissive. The drink was taken off the bill and 10% was later deducted, though the service charge stayed unless requested.

“The food was delicious, the atmosphere was really nice, and our waitress Jessica was lovely. The bartender was also nice and apologetic when the mistake was discovered. Unfortunately, we had an issue with my drink which really affected our experience. I ordered a non-alcoholic mojito as I was taking medication at the time that was not compatible with alcohol. I was given an alcoholic mojito by mistake and only found out around 30–45 minutes later when the bartender came over to apologise and explain what had happened. Luckily, I had only had a small amount of the drink as I didn't particularly like the taste, but it could have been a serious issue given the medication I was taking. Jessica was very apologetic and offered to take the drink off the bill, which we appreciated. We were later given 10% off, although a 12.5% service charge was still included and could only be removed if requested. The most disappointing part was speaking to the manager afterwards. We found her response rude and dismissive. She repeatedly spoke over both me and my boyfriend and seemed more focused on explaining that the bartender was a “good boy” and “didn't mean to” rather than acknowledging the seriousness of serving alcohol when I had specifically ordered a non-alcoholic drink. She patronisingly suggested we take the issue higher if we were concerned about it. I want to be clear that I understood it was an honest mistake and wasn't accusing the bartender of deliberately doing anything. As a bartender myself I understand that mistakes happen! My issue was with the mistake itself and the way it was handled afterwards. It's a shame because there were definitely positives to the visit, particularly the food, atmosphere and Jessica's service, but the drink being incorrect and the manager's response unfortunately left us disappointed.”

“We into this restaurant within an arch for dinner. The waitress was abrupt from the start, she wasn't very pleasant at all. Not sure how she is working in the food industry with that attitude. We chose where we wanted to sit, the restaurant was well air conditioned. The same abrupt lady took our order. Luckily, she was replaced by a lovely Italian waitress who made us feel at ease. Food overall was made well, drinks were as expected.”

“July 13th 17:00. The interior was spacious, quiet, and stylish. The menu offered a variety of dishes beyond just steak. The steak itself was tender and juicy. Featuring a nice balance of lean meat and just the right amount of fat. The garlic butter steak sauce in particular, paired perfectly with both the steak and the chips.”

“Great location, super service. Luke warm welcome and the steak and chips, a rib eye, was expensive at £33 and quite average. My waitress was excellent, Yui, very professional and hands off, yet attentive and engaging. I’ll definitely return, they have a good 2 and 3 course special, which I should have chosen in the first place.”

“Very good experience at The Archduke, just a short walk from Waterloo Station. The location is truly unique, set beneath the railway arches with exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings that create a distinctive and welcoming atmosphere. Despite the trains passing overhead, the noise is never intrusive and conversation remains easy. We tried the burger, fish & chips, and other meat dishes. While the fish & chips was enjoyable, the real highlights were the burger and the meat. The burger was served without excessive sauces, allowing the quality and flavour of the beef to stand out. A great choice for those looking for good food in a memorable London setting.”
