About Tsiakkos & Charcoal
Tsiakkos & Charcoal is a family-run Greek-Cypriot restaurant in London at 5 Marylands Rd, with no signage outside, so the street number is the way to find it. The kitchen cooks meats over charcoal, and food arrives as sharing plates. Kleftiko, slow roasted lamb, sits alongside slow burnt pork served with rice made with cinnamon, while taramasalata comes with pita. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome. The restaurant seats walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the slow burnt pork, described as dark with crispy bits, and one reviewer calls it the winner of the night. Close behind are the kleftiko, a slow roasted lamb that falls off the bone, and the charcoal-grilled meats with their smoky flavour. Starters and sides also draw praise, including taramasalata, hummus and pita, and a beetroot salad, while the banoffee pie is called the best one reviewer has ever had. Reviewers describe traditional Greek food served as sharing plates, with warm, friendly service and a lively yet intimate room that fills up at dinner. A few caveats come up on the plate: the rice is made with cinnamon, which suited the pork but may not suit everyone, and the baklava, compared to a spring roll, carries a strong citrus flavour. Two reviewers mention the lack of signage outside, and one had to go in and ask to confirm it was the right restaurant.

“I had a midweek dinner with a friend. The food was excellent and fairly prompt. The staff were very pleasant and polite. The only issue is that I couldn't see the name of the restaurant on the front, so I had to go inside and ask, to make sure I was in the right place.”

“Yummy Greek supper at Tsiakkos in Maida Vale. We had a delicious beetroot salad and feta salad and for entrees we enjoyed the slow burnt pork (delicious dark pork crispy bits here & there too) & kleftiko (slow roasted fall off the bone lamb) both served with rice. Delicious. The food came faster than the check! Our server. George, was particularly pleasant too! Very busy on a Wednesday evening but we were seated promptly after arriving (7pm).”

“Family run restaurant which still has the flair of homemade food with love. Food tastes fantastic and is served in sharing plates. A few years ago it was featured in the Guardian (well deserved) and unfortunately it's no longer a hidden, local gem. Thankfully the family maintained its down-to-earth, warm ethos.”

“One of those tucked any gems with the most delicious plates of food you’ll eat in London. 💎 They have their customer front of mind and the prices are very reasonable for what you get! Greek food done the best way possible. 🇬🇷🥗”

“delicious dinner! Chicken souvlaki was v good but the winner of the night was the slow burnt pork. Hummus and pita was also amazing. One note is that the rice is definitely made with cinnamon which was perfect for the slow burnt pork but def not for everyone so get the salad if you don’t vibe w that. Baklava was almost like a spring roll and had a strong citrus flavor. It was yum tho. Oh and drinks were also lovely. I’ll be back for sure!”
