About Maramia Cafe
Maramia Cafe is a Middle Eastern restaurant at 48 Golborne Rd in London, serving Palestinian dishes cooked the way families prepare them at home, a approach it has followed since opening in 2005. The menu centres on Chicken Mousakhan as a main, and the same msakhan also comes as a wrap. Moutabal arrives as a shared starter, with bread served alongside. Lamb and rice dishes sit among the mains, and the drinks list includes maramiah tea. A private basement space takes bookings for groups. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the Chicken Mussakhan, though opinions split: one finds it a well-known main and another calls it too fatty. Close behind are the Moutabal, lamb kebab, and king prawns, plus the maftoul with pumpkin and chicken, the msakhan wrap, lentil soup, Gaza salad, and sujuk. Reviewers also praise the bread, the Taybeh beer, the lemon and mint juice, and the Maramia tea. Several call the food fresh and consistently good, and repeat visitors name it a favorite Palestinian restaurant. Service draws the sharpest complaints. One diner was told chips had run out, then watched other tables receive them, while starters and mains arrived together. Another says two diners were ignored in an empty room until mentioning being Palestinian, and a third calls service slow. A group booking for a large celebration found the promised varied menu replaced by salad, dips, bread and two rice dishes, with no dessert, a service charge not mentioned beforehand, and separately paid drinks. One reviewer notes the warm wine and water, while others describe quick, friendly staff.

“To start, we ordered a bottle of the house white wine and a bottle of water. At £35, the wine certainly wasn't cheap, so it was disappointing that both the water and the wine were served warm. We ordered both our starters and mains at the same time and were told they had run out of chips. Around 20 minutes later, the two tables on either side of us, who had ordered after we did, received their starters before us. We continued waiting while both tables finished their starters before ours had even arrived. I eventually asked where our food was and was told it would be "coming soon," which it did. Halfway through eating our starters, our mains arrived. We had to ask the waitress if we could please finish our starters before the mains were served. Once we did get to our mains, the food itself was excellent full of flavour and very enjoyable. However, while eating my main course, I noticed other tables being served chips. I asked the waiter why they had chips when we'd been told there weren't any. His response was, "Oh, we have them now you can order some." By that point, we were already halfway through our meal, so it was a little frustrating. The restaurant itself is beautifully presented, and the quality of the food is very good. Unfortunately, the service let the whole experience down. Staff seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves and people they knew. than paying attention to customers, and for the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of service. If the service had matched the quality of the food, I would happily have given this restaurant five stars. Sadly, because of the poor service and the high prices, I can't rate it any higher.”

“Served us some nice lamb and rice but fleeced us. Spoke to the manager/ owner about a booking for a big celebration with 20-30 guests including kids. She offered us a private space (basement) and plenty of menu options. Drinks (alcoholic/ non alcoholic) not included so guests could pay separately at the bar. £50/ sounded a bit steep but it’s not easy to book a private space in London to suit a range of tastes and ages, and of course we are committed to Palestinian solidarity, so we booked without further scrutiny. That varied menu shared earlier did not materialise and we got (1) salad, (2) two types of white dips, (3) some bread that arrived late, and (4) two rice dishes - one lamb and one chicken. Good quantities. But no dessert. And then when the time came to settle the bill we see that a service charge has been added (not mentioned in any of the conversations before/ after the booking). So basically quite a high price for salad and rice with some meat. We also paid £££ separately for pricey drinks (including lemonade and cola) and there was an artificial scarcity of tap water. Food quality was high and quantity generous but if you are making a booking for a pre fixed menu please do ensure that you know what you are (not) paying for. We did express our surprise that nearly £60/ per head means no dessert and no drink but they said we should have booked a more expensive menu. We left feeling embarrassed about inviting our guests to what felt like an incomplete celebration meal.”

“Food here was really delicious, we had the Chicken Mussakhan, the Palestinian Moussaka, Gaza Salad, and Sujuk. Lovely bread too! We also enjoyed the lemon and mint juice and beer. Service was quick and the staff were friendly, even though it was quite busy.”

“We had a lovely Monday dinner. We started with a shared Moutabal, which was wonderfully fresh and flavourful, and as main courses Lamb Kebab and King Prawns. The food was outstanding; the meat was very juicy, and the prawns were excellent too. The service was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we had everything we needed. While the restaurant was quiet, being a Monday evening, it was a very relaxing atmosphere accompanied by lovely music. A highly recommended spot for fresh, authentic Middle Eastern cuisine.”
