About Suya Academy
Suya Academy is a Nigerian street food restaurant at 148 Plumstead Rd in London. The kitchen cooks suya to order on a charcoal grill, with beef, goat and wings among the meats on offer. The beef suya can be ordered spicy or not, and each order comes with a salad of onion, tomato and cucumber. Ordering happens at the counter at the far end of the room, where you get a number and pay after the food is served. Because everything is made to order, the wait depends on which meat you choose, and a wait is common.

“Well deserving of its legendary status. For those who don't know, as soon as you come into the restaurant you have to go to the counter at the very end to place your order. No money is taken at that time. You are given a number and you wait till that number is called out and then you personalise your purchase. That is the time that payment is taken. There are a couple of seats outside where you can eat your food if you can't resist eating it at once. There is no online ordering or telephone ordering.”

“Best Suya in London hands down! The wait is challenging at times but it’s all been cooked on the go and the wait is well worth it. Yum!”

“I’m a regular customer and genuinely enjoy the food here. However, I’m concerned about the way staff are treated. On several occasions, I’ve witnessed the manager speaking to staff in a condescending manner. It’s important to create a positive and respectful environment for employees, and it’s not appropriate for customers to be exposed to this kind of behaviour.”

“Really good Suya! I grew up eating Kano and Kaduna Suya which has the best Suya in NG and this is the closest to authentic. The Tozo meat cut was tasty and not dry and wings succulent. All that’s missing is some Masa!”

Customer Review Summary
Beef suya is what reviewers return for, praised as well seasoned, tender and cooked to order, with a choice of spicy or not and a salad of onion, tomato and cucumber. Close behind are the Tozo cut, which one Nigerian diner calls tasty and not dry, and succulent wings, with several saying it is the closest to authentic suya in London. Some travel an hour for it. The recurring complaint is the wait in a small, cramped shop. Reviewers say regulars and phone-in orders get served ahead of those standing there, nobody directs newcomers to where orders are placed or collected, and one wants a screen showing the number being served. A couple describe the owner or manager as rude or condescending. One diner found a goat suya order for a dinner party full of bones and un-chewable bits, so much went in the bin. One reviewer suggests calling ahead, though another says there is no phone ordering. One regular was given a free pack of suya after being recognised.
