  “Ended up here looking for somewhere to have a roast beef dinner in the middle of the week. Apparently this place is ‘home of the roast’. Super friendly staff, beautiful decor and grand setting.. I just wish I did not go for their carving trolley. The meat was more or less palatable, cold but palatable, but… the Yorkshire pudding was completely dried out, rock-hard and cold.. it was so stale and dry that it did not even soak up any of the gravy. The gravy itself was bland and overly fatty. I ordered a side of roast potatoes but these were rock hard.. so much so that cutting into them was nearly impossible. There is a lot more to comment on concerning the food but just know that it did not live up to the hype. The place itself is wonderful, upper class and historic.. unfortunately the food isn’t. And to those that are visiting from abroad,.. it’s OK to be honest about the food quality in this place. At an average of at least 100 GBP per person (including drinks), you are allowed to expect a well prepared meal. Life isn’t all about instagram and hype,..”

  “Really lovely. We came for breakfast and had the creamed oats, spiced prunes, full English with the lamb chop, a crispy bacon roll with a fried egg and the bullseye egg in fried brioche - super tasty. Delightful, attentive team members from reception through to table service. Perfection. ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡”

  “We visited the Simpson Bar and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing, especially given the reputation and pricing. Ordered champagne, The service was virtually non-existent. No attention was paid to the table, and we were left entirely unattended for most of the time. To make matters worse, the venue was freezing — the heating clearly wasn’t on, which made the whole experience uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. For a place that presents itself as a traditional British establishment of high calibre, it lacked both the service standard and the atmosphere you would expect. It also felt odd that none of the staff reflected that identity. Overall, very disappointing and certainly not what we expected. We won’t be returning.”
