About Casa Manolo, Strand

Casa Manolo is a Spanish restaurant and deli shop at 99 Strand in London, built around Iberian ham sold pre-cut or cut to order. Customers can build their own bocadillo on a baguette, or pick up an Iberian Ham Mini Cubes Cone as a snack to eat on the move. The menu runs to 67 dishes, and the tapas list includes patatas bravas and paella, with sangria to go alongside. The shop side also sells Spanish cheese, salami and wine to take home. The space is small, with a couple of high tables and limited seating, and no reservations are taken. A second Casa Manolo restaurant operates in Clapham Junction.

Customer Review Summary

Iberian ham is the draw at this small Spanish shop on the Strand, where reviewers praise the jamón bocadillos and baguettes to take away, the ham and cheese cone, and ham that can be bought pre-cut or sliced to order. Close behind are the tapas and paella, which several call delicious, along with octopus a la galega, squid and anchovies in vinegar. Patatas bravas split opinion, with one reviewer loving them and another not, and one finds the sauces on the squid, potato and veal dishes a little greasy and heavy. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, and wine and sangria get mentions. The main trade-off is space. A couple of high tables and limited seats make it hard for large groups, and one warns that lingering after the meal brings a request to leave. A few say it is not cheap, and one bocadillo had a soggy side. Several leave with cured meats, cheese and wine from the shelves.

“I recommend ordering anything ham-related eg the ham and cheese cone One side of my bocadillo was soggy on the inside, otherwise the filling was good”

“We love coming here for cured meats and paella. It’s small and they don’t take reservations but we love how cosy it is. Christian is really kind and knows his cured meats, so helped us with purchasing iberico for home. Thanks Christian!”

“Lovely place to try Spanish food, paella was unreal, delicious cheese and biscuits, friendly staff and so good vibe. I would recommend this place for everyone who likes good wine and small plates of tapas and Spanish meet.”

“This is good! Really good! I was in covent garden with friends looking for a place where to grab a sort of business lunch. Something more formal than usual, but all the restaurants nearby were fully booked (obviously). So we moved a bit outside the busiest plaza and ended up in front of casa Manolo, which, from outside, looks like more like a food shop rather than a place where eating. Tempted by the flavours in the air we got in and, even though quite small, we found a table available. I thought they could sell only sandwiches with jambon or queso, and, instead, there was a pretty serious menu. And most of what we got was really good (i didn'tlike very much the patatas bravas...everythingelse was great). It's a nice surprise, and it definitely deserves a bite if you are around. You can also buy food from there in case you want to bring back with you some delicatessen! The guys working there were very nice and helpful. It was an enjoyable experience. But do not spend too much time at the table after your meal...otherwise they will ask you to leave to give space to other customers!”

“I was craving a bocadillo and this hit the spot! There are grab and go options while also a build your own option with tomato and cheese and oil. We also had delicious Patatas Bravas and some anchovies in vinegar. I typically don’t overly love potatoes and these were great. I would definitely recommend this to others and return. There are a couple of tables and seats inside of you want to eat, but it might be hard for a large group to fit.”
