Quick info
About The Port House
The Port House is a tapas restaurant and bar at 417 Strand in London, next to the Adelphi theatre and just off the Strand behind Covent Garden. The narrow room has seating upstairs, candlelight and background music. Dishes are ordered as and when you wish, so the table can build a meal at its own pace. The tapas include cod croquettes and gambas pil pil, and a Manchego burger sits alongside them. The drinks list covers Spanish wines, including Rioja, with ports and sherries beside them. Tables are booked, and walk-ins sit at the bar. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own.

Customer Review Summary
Diners come mainly for the tapas, naming the manchego burger (one reviewer ordered it twice), cod croquettes, gambas pil pil and Arroz Negro, with asparagus and chorizo alongside Rioja and churros to finish. Close behind is the dim, candlelit, intimate interior, which several describe as suited to a date, along with friendly staff and a Spanish wine list. The complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer describes pollo and patatas bravas that had to be chased after a long wait, then arrived with undercooked potatoes and a poorly presented chicken. Another reserved a table for two but was seated by the corridor while a table for four stood empty, and one mentions a staff member talking loudly about personal problems. In the first case, the two late dishes were taken off the bill.

“It was a great experience. For Tapas, you do get what you paid for, but i thoroughly enjoyed what i got. The place is clean, and the atmosphere is nice - would recommend for a date etc. None of the food is undercooked, just make sure to order enough food!!”

“Food was absolutely amazing—we really enjoyed everything we ordered, and every dish was excellent value for money. Our waiter/bartender was so lovely and made us feel really welcome. The atmosphere was fantastic too. We had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place!”

“I can help but feel the rest of the reviews on here are fake as they really are not commensurate with our experience. The staff were very friends but service was so slow. Our first meat and cheese dishes arrived quickly but after 30 minutes of waiting we had to chase up our pollo and patatas bravas. They had clearly forgotten to make them as when the patas came they were so undercooked they were inedible and the pollo was the worst presented dish I have ever seen in my life.It was also inedible. The waitress claimed delay in getting them was because they don’t serve meat and cheese at the same time!Which was clearly not true… They did take the last two dishes off the bill but it still came to £140 for two which included wine but it cannot said to be good value for money.”

“I've got a reservation for valentines table for 2 , came in waited couple minutes and was seated upstairs. The light is dim which I love, it's not bright like other restaurants where you can get flashbanged by 100x LED . Staff was friendly apart from 1 lady that was sharing her personal problems with co-worker and was a bit too loud and was giving attitude to other vo workers. our orders been taken quickly and food arrived fairly fast considering it was valentines it took 20minutes for food to arrive. I spent around £70 for 2 . Really amazing place”
