  “The hospitality was so refreshing when compared with western restaurants. As soon as you sit down you are greeted with some Japanese green tea and snacks. I opted for the Katsu Curry which was delicious. Apparently they let you request extra rice for free but just don’t waste it. I would definitely consider going here again.”

  “A wonderful surprise! We ordered a katsu curry, a bento box and the udon noodles with beef and they were all fantastic; the curry was fragrant, the bento box varied and the broth that the udon noodles were in was top notch. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine or fancies something different in Chinatown. We will definitely come back again 😎”

  “I have been looking for a restaurant with good katsudon in London for a while, and this is the closest I have had to ones in Japan. I would have preferred a little more sauce and katsu cooked slightly less, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The free extra rice, green tea and rice crackers is appreciated too. I would return.”

  “The food was delicious, free tea & snack before you order, quick efficient and kind service, reasonable price for the location (and they don't accept tips), good portions and lovely interior. They are traditional - they have been going since 1992. They don't take bookings but we got a table at 7:30 on a Friday evening. Will definitely be back! The food was so good. I got the chicken katsu don (which is like oyako don - with egg! Delicious).”

  “You know what? As much as TikTok sucks the soul out of humanity it does sometimes serve a useful function. Really glad a found Tokyo Diner. Nestled in a corner, from the moment you press the automatic button you immediately feel transported to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hokkaido, wherever your mind pleases to wonder. I had the miso shiru and tamago don - both were delicious and filling, a real hearty umami hug. They offered complementary tea and Japanese snacks which I appreciated. I will definitely be coming back to try the soba (which looked unbelievable). Perfect for solo or group meals. I wish I didn’t get full so easily as I would have liked to have tried more things on the menu but they say patience is a virtue and I will 100 percent be coming back (quite possibly tonight - be warned). Anyway, I’m going to stop the prose now. Sometimes words can’t do justice to the pleasure that comes with good food and this is one of those cases.”

  “Small and quiet restaurant with very good food! We came there for lunch, and they seated us immediately without a reservation. The service was very fast. Didn’t have time to check out the other places in Chinatown to compare, but would definitely recommend this place. Reasonable prices”

  “This meal is absolutely to die for! As a big fan of cold udons, I had to stop here to give theirs a try. The cold udon is absolutely perfect, the noodles were chewy and fresh, while the dipping sauce gave the perfect amount of salty umami it needed. I also got the terikayi chicken and the cold tofu as a side. These were so incredible! The teriyaki chicken was full of flavour, the sweet and savoury mix of the sauce really elevated what already is a succulent chicken. The cold tofu was extremely nice, it was firm, and it went nicely with the udon broth to finish up the broth. I got a glass of plum wine, as that is one of my favourites. It was incredible. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone look for an authentic Japanese meal!”

  “I visited with a friend for dinner before an event, as the restaurant is really centrally located. We ordered miso soup, edamame, a nigiri set and sauce katsu don. You will get offered complimentary jasmine tea and tap water were provided, which was convenient if you don’t want to drink alcohol. Much appreciated. The miso soup was good. The edamame, however, were quite plain and could have benefited from some salt or seasoning. The nigiri set was good – not outstanding, but enjoyable for the price. Unfortunately, the sauce katsu don was disappointing. The meat was very thin, about the same thickness as the breading, which came away easily. The rice underneath had a few pieces of lettuce and a drizzle of an unidentified sauce (possibly oyster sauce), which didn’t really work for me. Overall, the experience was mixed, and it isn’t somewhere I’d be keen to return. On the positive side, the prices are reasonable and they don’t charge a service fee.”

  “Now that's what good food should be like. Amazing, warm atmosphere right at the entrance. Service so quick it'll leave you confused. The food is to feed your soul. The beef soup is just, I can't put it in words. It may have rained straight from the heavens. The chicken katsu don was so creamy! The complimentary tea is much appreciated in the cold weather. The nigiri was also such a delight. Highly recommend this place, they've earned me as a regular.”
